That last name sure did sound and look familiar... What happened Refugio offer them the king ranch edition truck and a ranch to put it on? Anyway, at a 2A school you're going to shine more if you have even average talent compared to at a good 4a/5a school that has 50-100 average kids and 10-20 good kids and 5-10 great athletic kids.... Thus why many stand out kids in the lower classifications aren't playing d1 college ball much less d2... I think several of the coastal bend 4a and 5a schools would beat Refugio not just with talent but the sheer number of kids they can sub in and out with and create mismatches with, a select few 3a schools could do it too. Refugio would get shut out by most of the 4A schools down here. Hell, some of the JV's would probably keep it close against them. They have the equivalent of little man's disease only it is little school disease. They are real cute though in that little district they play in. Depends on the quality of football in the 4A districts. I think they could certainly hang with the likes of TM, Moody, etc this season. Of course TM is close to 3A numbers as is. With reallignment coming up, Refugio needs to put the likes of Cuero, Sweeny, and Schulenburg on their schedule and ditch the Robstowns, etc. Maybe a Sinton or Rockport would suffice.

Im not one to talk about kids on this site, but I know exactly who you are talking about. All I am going to say is, you are right on. Ive seen him disrespect teachers on several occasions. Dad is always on the campus, visiting with the couselor, secretaries, principals... he gives everyone bad vibes. Thats all Im going to say about that.

We actually paid the waiver fee and threw in a few trucks if Refugio would take that family off our hands. Neither boy was good enough to start for us. In fact, the other stud RB they have is a former Calallen resident.
IMHO Lynx is the only player of high classification caliber on that team.

His dad was pimping his sons to GP for a few years...Harris would not budge on his free parking space offer.

I completely agree with you guys on this. Good 4a teams would wipe the floor with them for sure. Avg 4a teams would beat them soundly. And even poor 4a teams would give them all they could handle. Refugio would better their chances of winning it all by scheduling the likes of good 3a schools in non-district play instead of more weak teams like they have in their own district. Schedule Cuero, or even Devine or Hondo and they'd have some good competition that would make them better. Schedule PLC, Calallen, FB, GP, etc and take a good beating and learn from it to get better where you need to instead of scheduling weak teams that they run the score up to 80 on!

I think that the Caller-Times reads this forum...What would Refugio do in 30-3A?www.caller.com/news/2011/oct/18/what-would-refugio-do-30-3a/?partner=popularCOASTAL BEND — What if Refugio played in 30-3A? According to the latest Caller.com 3A-2A-1A poll, the Bobcats would likely fare well and they would certainly be challenged each week. As Refugio leads four 30-3A teams again in the poll. Sinton's dramatic 22-21 win over previously unbeaten Sinton is just one of the great games 30-3A fans should see as Sinton (6-1), Ingleside (6-1), Mathis (7-0) and Rockport-Fulton (4-3) battle for the three playoff spots in that district. Again this week, Ingleside will be involved in a 30-3A showdown with undefeated Mathis. The Mustangs will again be without leading rusher Marquis Barrolle, who will likely miss the rest of the regular season with a leg injury. Mathis knows what that is like as they have had the services of leading returning rusher Rashad Washington for only two games and 20 carries this season. CALLER.COM 3A-2A-1A TOP 5 Rank Team / Rec. / Prv. / Next Week 1. Refugio / 7-0 / 1 / Friday vs. Premont 2. Sinton / 6-1 / 3 / Friday at Aransas Pass 3. Mathis / 7-0 / 4 / Friday at Ingleside 4. Ingleside / 6-1 / 2 / Friday vs. Mathis 5. Rockport-Fulton / 4-3 / NR / Friday at Goliad

BUT, none of those teams are of elite caliber on the 3a level! When I say elite, I'm talking about legit top 20 3a teams like Giddings, Prosper, Celina, Alvarado, Wimberly, Henderson, Navasota, Chapel Hill, Carthage, Oakhurst, etc. There is no doubt that Refugio is a top 3 team in 2a this year and very well could win it all. I believe they'd win that 3a district as well and probably go undefeated through it. But I still believe above avg 4a teams would whoop on the Bobcat's pretty good as would top 3a teams such as I listed. Top 20 type 4a teams would ruin em!

True story - Calallen family runs into Refugio family at the Chili's in Calallen last season - chit-chat - talk got around to the clan that moved to Refugio from Calallen - the honest to God comment from the Refugio family - "you want them back...please!"

Kids who couldn't hack it in Calallen are now playing in Refugio and everyone seems to think they are all stars now...... Anyone can move down from a 4-A school as a third string pine rider to a 2-A school and all of a sudden be an "ALL STAR STANDOUT!" If you had not had the move in's from all over do you really think Refugio could still put up the numbers that they do? ?

Being that this was a bye week for us, we made the drive and went to watch Refugio play last night. They have a decent team or they wouldn't be doing as well as they are, and I believe that they would have still beaten Premont even without the "move in's". HOWEVER............................ Refugio is seriously lacking in depth (which we all know) and in sportsmanship. Not sportmanship as in not scoring so many points...but when the opposing team has to punt DO NOT walk off the field as soon as the punters foot touches the ball. At least have some one in the back field to fair catch the ball. The "excuse" we heard was the coach wanted the ball further down the field so that the offense had more time on the field. Well, it really doesn't matter when you have only 1 - 2 offensive plays everytime you get the ball. Maybe I am missing something, but if the starters need to "get ready for the playoffs and be able to play 4 quarters" it is never going to happen when they only have 14 snaps per half due to the long passes and the long rushing plays. Now, I know that this is not by any fault of their own, but change up the offense some and get "ready for the playoffs" by working on some different options. As they well know when you get deep into the playoffs you have to be able to pull some proverbial rabbit out of the hat to pull off the win sometimes. As for the "move in's" that happens....BUT it is sad when you drop down 2 classifications to be able to get some playing time and not warm the benches all season. Just my 2¢.

Just my 2¢. We should really stop talking about those transfers, I don't want daddy moving them back into this district to try and prove a point.. Hell next thing you know he will be talking to TM. I'm almost certain he will have wore out his welcome in bobcat country this year.

Refugio is seriously lacking in depth Refugio dresses as many on varsity as Beeville does. Probably not great for Refugio, and its freaking sucks for Beeville.

He was the freshman QB and probably would have started on varsity on offense or defense as a sophomore. Instead, he transferred to Refugio after his freshman year, got stuck on JV, and now can't beat out a sophomore QB nor snag a starting spot in the defensive backfield. Transfers or not, Refugio is loaded with talent. And I believe GP's running back left Refugio, so imagine if they had retained him as well.

I just brought this up in the regular 4A forum about how easy it is to transfer in and out and got chastized by RonBurgundy and LTCavwhatever# and they claimed all of their players have been there since grade school!! But, look how easy it is for players here to swap schools back and forth. Really funny to see how easy it is to do it down here in S. Texas but it can't happen up north??
