Just maybe the player doesn't want to play football any more. Maybe they have been playing because they were living up to others real or percieved expectations of them. Approaching adulthood they make the decision themselves. Each case is different.

Approaching adulthood they make the decision themselves. Each case is different. When the players quit football literally as soon as a college starts showing interest in their baseball career then it's easy to see what's happening and that has nothing to do with they were only in football because of others expectations.

You would have to get behind the eyeballs of each individual to understand what is going on and no use beating our gums over things we don't know. Motivation begins at home and football requires a different motivation than baseball or most other sports.

Some won't even get a college scholarship for baseball, Then mommy and Daddy will realize all that money spent was wasted and that AAU Coach was full of ****. It will never go back sadly unless a whole generation of parents start saying no. But somehow a whole bunch of MLB players did ok when they were younger playing in the local Summer Rec., Connie Mack, or American Legion . They got scholarship offers and MLB chances without some much sniffing a baseball field in the fall. And guess what? Once August came around, many of them were ready for real football two a days which lasted a whole month. I don’t know where this all got off track? I know locally what helped it along in Corpus and the Coastal Bend is for a few years starting around 2008 or 2009, we had several high school players make it to major college programs and even the Bigs out of high school and some of these select teams they played for really used them to market themselves and parents wanted their kids to be part of that. The problem became when some of these select organizations quit being “select” and just became money making machines allowing any kid to play. Plus you don’t know what kind of drug it is for some moms in particular to be a “baseball mom.” I guess some of them like it because they form cliques if you will which allows them to post and tag each other on social media endlessly. Lol! I do!!!

Lets say your nephew were to play football but got hurt and couldnt play basketball. He would absolutely regret that decision more than if he skipped football to focus on basketball. We all know the risk of injury is much higher in football than just about any other major sport kids play in high school. Some kids/parents dont want to take that risk of injury. I guarantee you 99.9% of the time it's the parent's and baseball coaches influencing the kid to give up football. That's where I have the biggest problem. BAM And we have a winner to where this all started with these select leagues and such. Mommy and Daddy thinking their kid is the next MLB hall of famer when they are barely above average to begin with.....some are not even that but they still sink thousands into it each year.

I'll say this.
Football is HARD. Football practice is WAY HARDER than a football game. Football training/weightlifting/etc. is hard, too. By comparison, baseball is like taking a leisurely stroll in a park. Baseball requires more skill, but nowhere near the effort that football does.
I can see a kid wanting to take his foot off the "hard pedal"... because hard things suck.
Having said that, the reward that comes with doing hard things stays with you, forever. Imagine taking the Alice Coyote football team to places it's never been before. Imagine the reward in that. Football is forever in Texas. Baseball is a nice filler between seasons... but your town isn't going to remember baseball greatness to the same extent as football greatness... that's just the world we live in.
To me, if a kid loves football... play it. If a kid loves baseball... play it. If a kid loves soccer... play it. If a kid loves golf... play it.
Play them all! This time ends. And when it ends... it ends forever. It's not just the sport itself that ends, it's everything that goes with it... the competitive arena, the family making a big deal out of you, strangers knowing who you are, your town being proud of you, your name in the newspapers, reporters interviewing you... on and on and on. It all ends, and it doesn't come back in any other part of life for 99.99999% of all high school athletes. Soak it in. Enjoy it. Do the hard things. There's so much that you can take with you in your memories moving forward once it ends... if you actually live it.

I can guarantee you more folks recall what happened on the football fields in this state vs any other competition field/court unless they were directly involved in it. Books. movies, and documentaries have been written about Texas High School football. Not so much for other high school sports in Texas. There might be a few, but nothing memorable for sure.

Basketball Sinton won a state title in 1995 and made a return trip but lost in attempt for back to back but most folks never talk about the basketball title. Few towns in coastal bend baseball is just as important to the community as football. Football has 9 Region Finals, 3 semifinals and 1 state final with baseball 7 state semifinal and 2 state finals in last 20 years. Baseball don't remember region finals in that span but it's i think around 11. I personally like all 3 sports and that's what i did back in the 80's when i played and did track Fr year till decided just baseball last 3 years instead of both that were going on at the same time.

Kids think it's just talk when adults tell them how fast time flies after high school. Parents need to stop encouraging kids to quit football to focus on baseball. Do the opposite. Play in front of thousands of people in football each week or play in front of 20 people at the baseball diamond lol. It's an easy choice if you ask me.

(baseball)West Oso not this year but the year before had one mom on their side of the stand, this past season they let Sinton take up their side also when Sinton played there. Their sport is basketball and they'll pack that gym for that sport.
