Glad we arent in D1!
R1 is pretty much about who survives District 4. Might be the most stacked district in 5A. Burleson Centennial, Colleyville Heritage, Mansfield Legacy, Mansfield Summit, Midlothian, Birdville, Richland, and Red Oak. I think 6 or 7 of the 8 teams made the playoffs last year. There are no easy district games in D4. Good luck with that. A couple good teams could very well miss the playoffs these next two years. Looking at the rest of the region Del Valle, Amarillo, Lubbock Monterey, Azle, and Abilene Cooper will all be in the mix.
R2 is going to be very competitive. Whichever team comes out of that region is my state favorite. Problem is I have no clue who to bet on! Denton Ryan? Frisco Lone Star? Lancaster? Highland Park? Longview? College Station? Lufkin? I know I have not been high on Lufkin but who knows. Still should keep an eye on them.
R3 looks like it will come down to Foster, Angleton, or Cedar Park. Those three would be the teams I would keep an eye on but PAM, Manvel, and Dripping Springs will be tough outs. I think the state finalist will come from R3 but not sure who beats the R2 team.
R4 is underwhelming. If Flour Bluff does not win the region not sure they ever will. Might be the weakest overall region in all of 5A.
What are yalls thoughts?

Flour Bluff has a lot to replace. CC Veterans Memorial might be a front runner. District 16 from the Valley also has a couple strong teams. Sent from my SM-N950U using proboards

Which strong teams from the valley? Weslaco East and Brownsville Pace Sent from my SM-N950U using proboards I'll buy CC Vets but not the "strong teams" from D16. Weslaco East is a combined 0-9 against quality programs in the playoffs (Flour Bluff, Calallen, Cedar Park, Cibolo Steele, Austin Westlake). Brownsville Pace has an even worse playoff history. Here are their last 5 seasons records 3-7, 3-7, 5-6, 7-4, and 6-5.

I could be wrong but FB will have a lot of work to do replacing the studs they lost from the defense. They will have a good RB coming back with several linemen but they lose just about all their receivers.

Can't tell you about the others but those games were no day at the beach.

Until they do its hard to really consider them a team to worry about in the playoffs.

But if they are underestimated a good team can get knocked out of the playoffs early. I think to an extent it's not that they are a bad team but just the matchups they draw during the tournament. Look at teams that face perirenal teams in the second round. If they faced a different opponent could the outcome have been different?

They also beat manor last year with one of their weakest squads in history, they have always been a small school playing a div up. They always have really strong hardnosed players, some of the toughest strongest ive seen, obviously lack speed even for rgv standards but theyre very rough and hardnosed .Mcallen memorial will be the other team to watch for in the valley. They always have talent but cant win. Mc memorial is easily the most talented team in the rgv always but can never really get thru the hump. Drop down from 6a. Pace should be an ok squad but no regional fav. Maybe a borderline playoff team. Brownsville teams are hard to predict , but they mostly always are on the bad side

They also beat manor 5a regional finalist last year with one of their weakest squads in years, they have always been a small school playing a div up bcs the district adds the disciplinary school to their enrollment and theyre still a small school. Mcallen memorial will be the other team to watch for in the valley. They always have talent but cant win. Weslaco East has the only chance from RGV.. McMemorial always finds a way to mess it up or they cant get it done plus they have no more Speights runners left.. And Pace hahaha please umm no.. I think a corpus team will take it tbh and i'm from the valley
