I know it’s been a week since our dysfunctional & tumultuous 2020 season had concluded & it took me a few days to re-evaluate the season. We’ve had to start practices a month late despite the passing a 5-2 deal or whatever y’all call, players pulling out & whatnot.
We’ve got a couple of setbacks to kickoff the season with Wimberley & C.C. Miller due to inconsistency with the offense mostly the line, poor discipline & defensive woes.
Beeville game in which I thought that game was gonna be a long night despite the early score we gave up then the defense stepped up most the game despite offensive inconsistencies (penalties & lack of execution) till they used the 2 back spread & put them away.
Then we had that unexpected situation which we had to forfeit the Calallen & Calhoun so they did get to suit up & go to battle for them games.
The T-M game was the game we had to WIN to make the playoffs in their backyard in a hostile environment. Everything went out of sorts offensively & defensively we couldn’t figure out the formations they were throwing at us we were clueless in that 1st half. The 2nd half came around the momentum changer was when T-M committed that horse collar that IGNITED the Alice faithful back to life executed some great plays scored 37 unanswered points, defense finally figured out T-M’s sets & shut them down. The officiating was horrible that night then both teams going at it like it was out of hand & screw up on our end when we had intercepted that football in the end zone which should’ve been a touchback but then awarded T-M the TD because both were going for the ball. Won the game tho!
Playoff time played Hidalgo (Coach Stumbaugh’s Bunch) & that EXPLOSIVE running game led by their All-State RB we held him in check for most the 1st half without our All-State Inside Linebacker & our freshman stopping him SHORT a yard. Offensively we left a lot points in their (Hidalgo) territory due to penalties, poor play calling, & bonehead plays. We should’ve beaten them by 28 we almost took Hidalgo for granted.
The L.B.J. game in the Area Round the game didn’t go the way our Alice Faithful despite missing a handful of players, we give up a kickoff return for 6, recover a fumble on the kickoff return in which they scored on the next drive everything avalanched on us from the word go we couldn’t stop them in all 3 phases in the game (defensively, special teams & offensively) we didn’t have answers to keep them blue chip talents (D-I players) in check. I’ve seen Alice get blown out bad in the playoffs in the past but when you think of them few D-I commits reminds me of the 1999 State Semifinal game vs Texas City in the saying from Coach Van Tom Whatley after that Texas City game “You couldn’t stop them from hand grenades”
The future should be SET for the next several years with the 9 freshman players that got called up that’s a amazing accomplishment & we also got a SOLID 2023 & 2022 class we could be a force if everything goes well as planned & as for the 15 seniors we wish them all the best as they go on the chapter of their future endeavors. We’ll be back in 2021!

For those that don't know yet... Rest In Peace Bobby Pena. Bobby called the games for Alice on the radio and was a diehard Alice fan. He's the one that got my foot in the door with the video editing and I'll always be grateful for that. I think he was also one of the posters in here but I'm really not sure which one. He was a very good dude.

Very sad to hear about Bobby Pena ... I never knew him personally but I listened to him cover the coyote games on the radio over the years and it felt like hearing an old friend every time you heard his familiar voice come on air to talk about another season of coyote football.. condolences to his family

I think he took over from the another guy ( Mike Smith???) who used to call the Alice games forever and might have owned the Alice radio station. Might have been around 2000 up until five or six years ago. I recall hearing back then his health wasn't too good.
