I agree. I expect Ray to give Calallen fits. We have had some close games with them the last few years and we were much more established with our pitching than we appear to be this year. King should be favored in the South and Cal lost to them badly last year. Ya I'm def thinking ray can maybe give cal a decent run for their money with loft in on the mound. Other than that though, the cats should take the North easy. Interzone playoffs will be big this year, especially if it turns out to be King vs Cal with the way those two games went last year You want to be first place in your zone to guarantee a post season slot if the formula is the same as football. It's going to very interesting for Cal because of the new pitching rules. Riding two arms for the balance of the district season is going to have to be a thing of the past because it certainly hasn't worked well the past four or five seasons now when it came to needing an experienced third, forth or fifth arm come playoff time. You have to have those options because like it or not fatigue sets in especially with your Seniors because going on at the same time as baseball playoffs is graduation and all the hoopla associated with that. And all it takes despite being great all year on the mound or even a position player is one bad inning and it's over for the entire season. We lost to Alamo Heights and Georgetown the past two years despite on balance being more talented from top to bottom roster wise. But with playoff or big game experience they had more players off their benches who could and did step up because they were utilized on the mound, the batters box and the field at various points of the season (IE District games and early round playoffs) and it showed when we played them. Go look at the teams in the tourney the past few years and many had close to 10 loses or more because they utilized the regular season the correct way to get to the post season where it counts and early round playoff seeding be damned. You can't expect a kid to pitch in a big game and be mentally or physically sharp who hadn't pitched more than an inning or two in a real game against a good or even average team since late February or March (tourney time) and expect him to be 100% on the mark. Asking him to be 75% or even 50% would be stretch too. Perhaps the new pitching rules will be a blessing in disguise and be the change in philosophy on the mound that we've needed going back now since our last state tourney appearance which is seven years ago? We shall see.... I've probably said too much, LOL!!!

It's going to be an interesting season with several teams in rebuilding years or with young players.

Nobody has mentioned Alice. Unacceptable. I have no idea what we have coming back. But we did get a high energy new head coach from the CC King staff so I'm loving that. We open up the Coastal Bend season with a game against #6 in 4A Sinton at Whataburger Field February 20. Does anybody know if the corn dogs at Whataburger Field are still $259 for high school games also, or just for the Hooks games?

This dist has 4 top ranked teams in district. GP keeps improving and a new coach. VM is building with a great coach. Who will be the spoilers for the top four this year. TM may be good and how is FB doing ?
