Just because I was bored I made a list of all the Texas High Schools that have enrollments of 3000 or more. I have a list of 64 Schools. The numbers run from 5987 - 3000. So is that enough for a Stand alone Classification.

If the UIL would add a classification what would the new numbers look like? 7A 5987-3000(64 schools), 6A 2999-X, ect. It would be a lot of work but I think it would be a cool project for anyone that is super bored.

But I may try a few more Hypothetical Classifications later. I'll post them here. Just for fun. How about some input first. I'm thinking as classifications get smaller the number of schools in each will grow. Until you get to the smaller ones.

To give me a lose idea of how many schools I would want in each classification. Then look at enrollments and decide when the enrollment numbers are too far apart for competition. Those would be the first two things I would look at. Trying to get 6-8 teams in each district would be the toughest part! But that is really getting into it.

It either that or cap each classification at a flat (150 schools for example) number and see how it shakes out. Could put a plus/ minus in case there are several schools with the same enrollment in the same classification if they fall on the cut numbers.

OK all of 6A, 5A and 6 teams from 4A D1 with enrollments over 1000. gives us 501 teams to work with. We already know there are 64 teams with 3000 or more. That should be the largest Classification IMO. WE can't do anything about the mega schools 4000+. I believe 3000 and up is the best we can do in this class. Now for the remaining 437 schools. Dived up into 3 classifications would put 145 in two classes and 146 in the other. Keep in mind we may have to move a few around due to actual enrollments.
Sound good? Any other ideas.

You should email the revised classifications to the UIL and sign it capo di tutti capi. Let them know how to make things better. Then at a later date we can work on the playoffs. Predetermine D1 and D2 or just have one champion per class.

So after doing the mock. I've come to the conclusion that dividing 6A and 5A into divisions would pretty much accomplish the same result. However. I left 1AD2 through 4AD2 as they were. Just rename them whatever you wish. I pulled the schools from 4AD1 that had over 1000 enrollment into the next classification. So. The largest Classification is 66 Schools (off a list I found on the internet) Starts with Allen 5987 to Los Fresnos 3016. Classification 2 Desoto 2993 to Weslaco East 2224.5. 145 schools. Classification 3 Amarillo Tascosa 2220 to White Settlement Brewer 1730. And was also 145 schools. Classification 4 Dallas Samuel 1718 to the 1000 cutoff. Came out to Around 155 schools or so. I did not take into account the opt ups. Just figured that out... sue me..LOL Well that was fun. Comments.

Would that mess up the numbers too much for the lower classes?

Would that mess up the numbers too much for the lower classes? Haven't looked at it that way. What I found out was the divided classifications had 88-98 teams in each division. So I used a 145 school model Give or take to establish who would be in which class. Other than separating the huge schools from the rest in the big class. As my Dad always say's there's more than one way to skin a cat... But the cat don't like none of em.

Just throwing out some ideas. You are doing all the hard work!

In a dream world I would like to see no more than 500 difference in enrollments in a classification. but our State is much to large for that. The travel would be ridicules.
