Georgetown 6 Calallen 3 Final Stunner! Down 5-2 in 5th, bases loaded, 1 out, back to back strike outs from kid with 5+ ERA...back breaker... Georgetown had a better game plan and confidence in their lower part of the pitching roster. None of them were overwhelmingly superior than anyone else we faced to this point. Probably because as noted on the radio in even some of their close playoff games and throughout the season whether they won or loss, their coaches used all of them including the kid that got the save. Nuncio did an admirable job with the cards he was dealt with having to take the hill not pitching in a real game in month or two. The kid that got the save pitched well in relief in their loss against Vets and putting him to the fire was a gamble but a good one. Their coach saw something that gave him confidence to give him another shot at this time for the save and a trip down the road to Round Rock. Congrats Eagles.

Georgetown came into the series with a plan to get to game three. The coach knew Calallen only used two pitchers all year long. He got one the the first two wins and was in the drivers seat.
They hit the ball and ran the bases well. They hit Dylan and they hit Kyle . Nuncio held them off better tonight under pressure. Maybe he should have got the start instead of Dylan who threw over 100 pitches a day ago.
They came to play and outplayed the wildcats on the defensive side. Both teams had a great season and Calallen has nothing to be ashamed about.
Congrats and good luck to the Eagles!

No stunner, just a better team with a better coaching plan. No excuses but GT hit when they were not known for that and executed on defense when given the opportunities in which they have done all year to get to this game. As stated before game , Dylan started which is now why he is not undefeated this season. Starting Nuncio first and believing in one of your other seniors could of possibly had a different outcome then pitching one of your aces that just pitched 110+ Pitches two evenings before and traveling that much for three days . All on the coach there! Nuncio did a great job out there under all the circumstances his senior year of ball listening to the announcers tonight. He hadn't pitched in over a month? Good season Cats . Nothing for the players to be ashamed of here . Congrats to the Eagles on a great series! Best of luck heading to State!!!!

I'd wish Georgetown player coaches and parents the very best. The First trip to Round Rock is gonna awesome for u! The last two years at least Moody and Victoria East won their semi so the was a Region 4 team playing for State. I expect you guys to win for all of us too. As for this year it's been about as fun to me as you could ask for. I always had the feeling these kids were give 101percent. Game like the GP second Moody first looked like maybe it wasn't really the best team in state. Only One team Can be. 30/5 will take. Region 30 champs take that too . Following all the kids in College as I do not I just can't how proud we are of you, it's a Someone situation here at Calallen. So really have fun the rest of ur lives, don't forget the way back After college. Oh that defending U.S. Junior league World Champion, probably couple ball players too. Thank You all for all you done for Calallen District 30 and Region 4.

Anyone willing to give me a heads up on what to expect from Georgetown? I'd imagine they have good pitching but what about their hitting? Are they a small ball team that bunts kids in scoring position or do they just hit? Do they try and steal bases frequently? Is their # 1 a righty or lefty? How do you beat this team?

Defiantly don't underestimate them. They will be in the game, and make sure y'all have more than two pitchers! A one-two punch is a great thing to have but it's the jab that will get you.

The tournament is single elimination so hopefully we will just use one pitcher against them! Do they play small ball or rely on big bats?

Couple things don't underestimate them with that record. It's Hard not to.. It wasn't the pitching and hitting as much as it was their defensive presence. They averaged three double plays a game. That's 6 outs seven inng game. Hitting into double play , avoiding. I Think don't want to upset anyone this is a team that peaked late , can't hit home runs don't have a lot of anything winning close games. They made a big deal about their base running. It's really overrated. Kyle got multilevel picks at will. Dylan always a real slow , get back to first move, mainly trying to not overthrow he got a couple he hadn't couple a couple on anyone all year. I've enjoyed back and forth all year so good luck!

Having made it to the state tournament I believe no team should be underestimated! They certainly have beat good teams along the way. I think I read somewhere that this is their first ever state appearance. I hope they play tight and the lights are a little bright for them. Not that Aledo has a rich baseball tradition in making it to state but we were here last year and I hope our kids use that experience to their advantage. However big or small a difference that makes. They know what it takes. I believe Georgetown is a beatable team but I know that we are too. It really comes down to who makes those clutch 2 out hits/strike outs. I know the baseball team does not want to be the only team from last year not to repeat. Motivation is pretty high for these kids. Just hope we end up with more runs after 7 innings.

There record was somewhat a byproduct of taking some lumps along the way to make sure their entire pitching staff got exposure because as we just witnessed, you need three or four good arms for the playoffs even if you have Division One or MLB bound talent as your number one and two pitcher. Your third, fourth or fifth arms don't even have to be college material, but need the game exposure throughout the season so they can be ready to go in crunch time. Georgetown didn't let one pitcher throw over 90 pitches in the playoffs nor in many games in the regular season which allowed their fourth and fifth options to get work because two game sweeps are never a guarantee and of course the injury bug is always a possibility with your pitchers . And it worked for them.

Defense and pitching wins ball games! Calallen committed multiple errors in the series against Georgetown and used 2 pitchers for the entire series which proved wasn't enough. Georgetown seems to be peaking at the right time and has momentum after knocking off a top ranked team. Aledo is the defending state champion and will try to use that to their advantage. Good luck to all four teams!
