Not opening in 2017 wouldn't hurt the 3 other schools, but Memorial's football program would be majorly set back without the year of JV. In order to keep Lone Star, Wakeland, and Heritage down, this school will have to have 5A numbers AND likely have seniors in 2018. The likely-10-team FISD sports district would be tough enough for a second-year program, but look at the difference between Eaton and Reedy and then Braswell for what the extra year can do. Also, I was looking to apply to FISD next year, so this severely limits job opportunities (the failed TRE means class sizes are going up, so I may actually not want to go there anyway).

Looks like Frisco Memorial will sit empty for a year. They might even be able to just open with 9th graders. (Actually, with the downturn in the economy that is likely coming, I'd bet on the 9th-only for 2018).

Mathematically Frisco ISD is in trouble. Even with budget cuts and larger class rooms they won't be able to sustain their current programs. Pay to Play and a lot of fee's are headed parents way... Also here comes more rezoning and good luck keeping all the schools 5A because the growth hasn't stopped. What's funny is that a lot of the parents that will be butt hurt over the cut to programs probably never to go vote.

Pflugerville ISD is breaking ground on Weiss High School. I've been wondering what name they would decide on. Thanks.

Really good FAQs for Conroe Grand Oaks. I'm a little disappointed this school will not compete at the varsity level until 2020. gohs.conroeisd.net

Klein Cain revealed its mascot and colors a while back. Hurricanes beat out Mavericks and Wildcats. Purple/Silver/Black/White beat out Crimson/Gold/Silver/Black and Navy/Orange/White. This will be interesting, the Cain Canes.

Per Northside Harlan website:
"Itβs official! The students have voted and the John Marshall Harlan High School mascot will be the Hawks. The school colors will be Columbia blue, black, and silver.
The school logo is currently in design and will be revealed in the spring."

Southwest Legacy opens to 9-10 in 2017. Projections show an enrollment of 1631 for 2018-2019. Using the 1.33 modifier, it looks like this school will be borderline 6A in 2018 due to a 2169 enrollment number for realignment purposes. www.swisd.net/boundaries/docs/Boundariespresentation.pdf

I don't know how Melissa figures they will only be at 3500 students at build out. Allen ISD is smaller in square miles (29) and will have close to 7k at build out. Melissa is at 37 square miles. Unless Melissa plans on strictly holding to 1-2 acre zoning, which a lot of districts have tried but the greed of the town has consistently won. Melissa is on 75 and while the Dallas North Toll Road has slowed growth along 75 the growth is coming back. Even Princeton, which is off the beat and path, is growing now. I haven't been through Melissa in a while and I know a lot of the mormons have moved out so I don't know how much they have grown in the last few years. I assume it will be several alignments before they reach 5A, however there was a sign advertising homes from the $120,000's and that will bring growth in a hurry.

I assume it will be several alignments before they reach 5A, however there was a sign advertising homes from the $120,000's and that will bring growth in a hurry. They did say that was projected a long time ago, so I'm guessing that means when they decided to build their own high school about 15 years ago. Might be time to update the projections, huh? As messed up as Anna and Anna ISD can be, at least everything is planned out there. Anna's houses are generally cheaper and more densely packed than Melissa's, so it will be interesting to see how everything plays out. I honestly would not mind seeing the 2 ISDs merge before the growth, though there is zero chance that happens thanks to Anna ISD's state-leading bond debt. EDIT - I wouldn't like to see a merger for any reason other than a shared career and technology center, which Anna ISD already has in the long-term plan. Bigger districts mean more options like that, but I am also not a fan of huge districts. I think it would be nice for the 2 districts to share resources and plan to have the same size HSs.

A few developments have happened in Sherman ISD and I haven't posted.
First, they split their MS-HS needs into two plans. Plan A: Build new 2100-student SHS ($133M) and renovate current SHS into 1000-student MS ($14M). Plan B: Renovate and expand SHS from 1400- to 2000-student capacity ($35M) and build new 1000-student MS ($51M). Plan A won.
Second, for the 2017 bond, they split the district needs into two combinable packages. Package One ($160M): A new $146M HS and $14M in district-wide technology upgrades). Package Two ($150M): 2 new ES, conversion of current SHS into MS, and either a new stadium ($28M) or renovating Bearcat Stadium ($27M).
The committee chose to pursue both packages for a $305M bond in May 2017.
Key takeaways: -SISD is going all-or-nothing and will probably fail. -If failed, they can go back down to Package One for November 2017. -SHS will break ground in early 2018, if passed. -The site was originally unknown, but it looks like the city is buying land in the south-central part of the district which will be MUCH easier to access than SHS is currently. -Piner MS will be demolished and turned into a parking lot if Bearcat Stadium is renovated and expanded. -The community will likely want to keep Bearcat Stadium, but that is a double-edged sword for losing such a pretty building to make it happen. -The new stadium would be built at the new SHS site. -The new superintended said SISD will eventually need two MS. -He also said they want to reduce transitions, so they'll need to ditch the intermediate school. Not sure if that means a return to 6-8 MS model or just merge into a 5-8 model. -I don't think SISD has pre-athletics, so they wouldn't lose anything by dropping the intermediate campus. -Former MS-turned-Intermediate (5-6) Dillingham is in a newer building, but could be turned into a MS if fields are added or a 600-student ES with excess space. -Dillingham sits next to SISD's newest ES, so if not a MS, it would either need to be an early childhood center or SISD will be pulling an Alief ISD. -IMO if they have 1 MS, the Piner site is better and more centrally located than current SHS is. -If they have 2 MS, they will need to house grades 5-8 and have one on both the east and west sides of the district, so the current SHS site would make sense
