Aledo and Hallsville are the only schools in 5A that have both baseball and softball going. Georgetown would join that list if they can beat Flour Bluff on Monday. Lovejoy's baseball coach is "leaving", we are looking for a new coach. I don't have kids in Baseball or Softball, but I stop by games and know a lot of the parents. I'll try to catch at least one of the games against Hallsville.

Area heavyweights Aledo, Azle set for regional softball rematch By Brian Gosset bgosset@star-telegram.com For the second straight season, Aledo and Azle will meet to determine a state softball berth. The three-game series begins at 7 p.m. Thursday at Saginaw Chisholm Trail High School. Game 2 is set for Saturday at 2 p.m., with Game 3 to follow if necessary. In last week’s regional semifinal, the Bearcats (19-1) got a scare from Canyon, suffering a Game 1 defeat that snapped their 44-game winning streak. But Ashton Adkins hit a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth inning of Game 2 to propel Aledo to victory. Adkins and Riley Sartain combined for three homers in Game 3, but Canyon had an 8-5 lead in the fifth. Allie Arneson then homered to spark a five-run sixth inning to boost the Bearcats into the regional final. “I think we’re ready for Azle,” Adkins said. “We’re going to work extremely hard this week to prepare ourselves.” Lauren Craine (18-1) got the decision in all three games for Aledo. “Being down in the second game was scary, but it just pushed us to work harder,” Adkins said. “I got a little emotional thinking about the fact that it could be my last game.” The Hornets (31-4) had a much easier time in a sweep of El Paso Hanks, outscoring the Knights 23-3. Samantha Bradley hit two grand slams in Game 1, including the walk-off in the fifth for a 14-3 win. Bailee Carter had a two-run homer in Game 1, and Bradley and Rebekah Teel added homers in Game 2. “We came together as a team against Hanks to win the series — and it was a dream come true to hit two grand slams,” Bradley said. “We’re definitely ready for Aledo and everything else ahead.” Azle’s dynamic punch will try to dethrone the Bearcats and make it to state for the first time since 2009. Makenzi Harris (15-3) won Game 1 against Hanks, and Bradley (17-1) took care of Game 2. www.dfw.com/2015/05/25/999273/area-heavyweights-aledo-azle-set.html

I would like to start by saying that Canyon was a really scrappy team. They have a couple young pitchers and can hit the ball. They took us to the brink. I fully expect them to be good for the next couple years! Having said that I think Azle should be ranked first with Hallsville second and Aledo third. Azle beat #4 El Paso Hanks by a combined score of 23-3. They beat a higher ranked opponent convincingly. Don't get me wrong I believe we will beat Azle but they deserve to be ranked higher this week.

Don't pay much attention to this poll. It's a coaches poll so very few have even seen the other teams. They vote heavy for their regional/district teams. If half the region I coaches vote for a West team and Azle and Aledo split then they would drop. Aledo gets top billing because they are the defending champs. If Aledo had dropped some questionable games then they may drop in this poll, but until someone knocks them off they deserve their ranking.

Win and you'll move up. So after the Championship is determined the winner will be #1 and the loser #2.

CLASS 5A REGIONAL FINALS #1 Aledo (19-1) vs. #3 Azle (31-4) #2 Hallsville (34-1) vs. #5 Lucas Lovejoy (27-4) #7 Santa Fe (29-6) vs. #6 FB Ridge Point (25-5) #8 Corpus Christi Flour Bluff(31-5-1) vs. #4 Cedar Park Vista Ridge(17-1) I think the teams in green advance. 2 upsets in the region finals! Lovejoy and Flour Bluff have been putting up runs lately and I think that will help them advance. Ridge Point beat Barbers Hill and I think that team is better than Santa Fe. Simple logic but those are my picks.

"......They better be ready". I love it! Make a comment like that, and she better be able to back it up on the field. She and her team may have played well in the series against the defending champs, but it is never a smart thing to do IMO (wake a sleeping bear)
