My son enters his second year playing for Nazareth Academy in Victoria. For those that do not know, NA, is a private Catholic school in Victoria which fields a junior high team consisting on 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. I also coach the OL and DL for the team. My son played sparingly as a 6th grader last year (mostly when games got out of hand) on the defensive line.
We ended last season with a 4-3 record and look to improve this season. First practice is Monday.
My son grew a few inches and put on some pounds while attending the STJ strength and conditioning program so my hope (and his) is to increase his playing time tremendously. I hope to work with him as a defensive end.
My son will eventually attend Victoria West HS where I hope that he will continue to play. I also have a younger son that will play for Victoria Cade JH in a few years and then Victoria West HS. My little man is a beast! LOL.
We are trying to secure a game with Seadrift (who we have played for many years) but the game was dropped off the schedule for some reason. Hopefully it will happen.
I know several posters enjoyed my "First Time Football Dad" thread last season. Hopefully the "Second Time Football Dad" will be interesting as well.

First day of practice yesterday. After only 18 kids signed up before school started, we picked up a few stragglers to make it 24. Unfortunately, the stragglers were mostly 6th graders. A couple of them have some size and I have one of them penciled in at right guard to start.
Looks like all those passes I threw over the summer have paid off. My son is 1st team TE right now and did really well.
We are in shorts and helmets until Thursday and we travel to Shiner next Thursday for our first game.

We lost 2 guys after the first day. Football was just not for them. I imagine that we will lose a couple more after today.

Quick update...
My son was moved to WR due to another boy being injured. So he will start at WR and CB on defense. We also had to cancel practice on Monday and practiced in the gym yesterday due to the weather. Hopefully we are ready for game day tomorrow. We picked up another 8th grader on Friday. Big kid who will most likely start at middle LB. He is big and mean. Perfect fit.

Game Day! We are pumped.
Quick funny story. I had a 6th Grader come up to me yesterday and he told me that he thinks that he pulled the hamstring in his ankle. So, I told him to rub some dirt on it and get back to drills. So he did. LOL.

Good luck to your son and the team this year. My son also started football for the seventh grade team here at Travis and I know how excited you are right now.

Nazareth Academy 16 Shiner 14 Final
Kids played their butts off. Super proud of them. My son played damn near every play, only sitting out on KO Return.
