Are we just discussing R4 or are we discussing all the regions? I have far more thoughts on R1 than on R4.

That was what I thought. So, if the four playoff teams are GP, Calallen, Calhoun, and either TM or Beeville, Calallen's D1. Long odds of TM or Beeville beating out both VE and VW. Or G-P

This is Texas 4a Sports, not just Coastal Bend 4a Sports. Although it is tough to tell sometimes with the majority of members being from the Coastal Bend.

R1 thoughts...
Division 1 Favorite: Denton Guyer (no, not just making a homer pick) Contenders: Birdville, Amarillo, Wolfforth Frenship*, Aledo* Dark horse: Byron Nelson, Waco*
Division 2 Favorite: Wichita Falls Rider Contenders: Wolfforth Frenship*, Aledo*, Waco* Dark horse: Canyon?
There are a few teams that can go in either division. (Technically Rider can, but it's extremely unlikely they'd go D1.) If all of the contenders manage to go D1, then Rider has a relatively easy road to the semis. On the other hand, they could wind up with a possible second-round game with Aledo or another regional final against Frenship.
D1 seems to have most of the action. Guyer would seem to be a heavy favorite with Amarillo possibly being down a bit, though I could be wrong on the Sandies. Birdville should be good again as well, and Frenship and Aledo are also possibilities if they go D1. But overall, Region 1 appears to be top-heavy, so it's hard to find legit contenders once you get past the top five teams or so. Nelson could be an interesting sleeper candidate in D1 if they can get past a near-certain first-round game against Birdville. As far as D2, Canyon is the best I've got for a sleeper team.

Lots of work needs to be done. Things don't look good. Lol Meant nothing by it. Just that Beeville and TM would would have to win two of three vs East, West and G-P in the same year to put Calallen in div 1.

In R4 I think the ones to look at right out of the gate are CP and SA Brennan. CP is rolling with their program and Brennan has a ton of talent returning including the highest recruit in the area in Derrick Roberson rivals.yahoo.com/texas/football/recruiting/player-Derick-Roberson-137676The Bears also have several other pretty high recruits. After those two teams I'd have these usual suspects in no particular order: Tivy PLC FB Leander L Rouse CP Vista Ridge IMO, the 8 teams I mention would make up 8 of 10 pre-season top 10 R4 teams If CP goes D2 and Brennan D1 like last year, they'd be my two picks as of today to win the region. However, if Tivy's D improves over last year and the new QB settles in nicely and the O-line play improves.....they'll give the D2 bracket all they want again this year. I don't know enough about PLC or anyone else's team to make that kind of a judgement before the season starts. Tivy I do know improved greatly from early in the year and the potential for them this year is certainly there.

Then CP deflated Brennan's ego in the 4A Region 4 D2 Championship. SA Highlands and SA Brackenridge were the two D1 teams from 28-4A that pushed Brennan to D2.

Either way, I still think coming into the year (pre-season) Brennan and CP look to be at the top of the list in R4 4a. I would very much like to see those two teams in different brackets this year! SA Brennan will have the talent on the field to win it all.......whether they can get it done will be the question.

Cedar Park in D2. No question, not only defending champions, but return 8/8.
In D1, it is still Leander. DCTF has this prediction as well. They may not be a preseason top 10 in DCTF, but Old Coach has them #3, and MaxPreps #4. Aside from Cedar Park, return most out of any team in the district. Rouse is a sexy pick, but unfortunately lost a ton of people, only return like 2/5...something like that. I still think they will make the playoffs however. PLC and Brennan are teams that could contend in D1, unless they are D2. Leander did lose their QB, but returns some important pieces. If Lee Bridges can get his new systems working, they will be just fine, and have a good shot at taking down region 4 D1...probably not quite as strong as last year, but we'll just have to wait and see. McClatcher, our RB, will still just be a junior, and Hopp, the QB, also a junior was worked into the rotation a little bit towards the end of last year after Woodward suffered an injury. CP's old O-Coordinator is now ours, but we lost our D-Coordinator to Marble Falls. 3 D1 commitments on the defense, one at each level. DL Epley (SMU), LB Nwakama (Rice) and DB Kelley (UTSA). I still say CP/Leander winner takes the district, but beating CP will be a tough feat. Leander may finish outside of top 2, but anyone making the playoffs out of 25-4A can contend to win the entire region. Rouse got the last spot last year and proved just that.

Leander will be a good team this year with a lot of talent returning on the defense. The running back will be a force to deal with as well. The coach that went to Leander from CP, was the quarterbacks coach and had previously been the OC at Stony Point in Round Rock, he will help their quarterback who is talented. 25-4a will be a battle each week, with several teams fighting for the available playoff spots.

Brennan and CP are the 3rd largest school in their districts. I really think Vandy breaks through in 25-4a, knocking off either Rouse or CPVR. If it's Rouse they knock out, CP will go Div I. I really can't see Edison or Lanier making the playoffs to push Brennan to Div I, but stranger things have happened. This could leave Brennan as the favorite for Div II. That being said, here's what I think for Div II.
CP (unless they go Div I and then they become favorites in Div I) Brennan( if they go Div I along with CP, Reg IV Div II will be wide open) PLC, Tivy, Calallen in no particular order after the big 2. You would also have to throw Vandy and CPVR from 25-4a in their as well.
I don't have FB in there because I believe Miller and Alice pushes them to Div I. If not, you can throw them in with the other coastal bend teams.

I would go with CP and Brennan. CP was just beastly and returns a bunch. I font see them getting dethroned. Brennan is oozing talent and speed right now. If they put it all together then i think they make a run.
I've got a feeling Calallen is going to have a strong year. I would mix Cal, PLC and Tivy right in there. The Bluff has a dang good program going as well but Im not so sure about the QB situation. But, i believe they will field a good squad and would root for those guys to do well.
I would absolutely love to see Cal play Brennan! I will get a first hand look at Brennan my sons second game of the season.
