Stadium seats over 6000, may be small by 4a standards but may be the best 2a has to offer. Could host 3a playoff games in the early rounds. The new turf is going to be killer, just need to grow that parking lot. www.texas2afootball.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7184 Little history on the stadium. Andrew Pate Β· UT Austin Bobcat stadium was completed in the summer of 1955 and was ready for play when football season began that fall. The Bobcats won all six of their home games that season, including a bi-district win over Bay City and a district game against Port Lavaca that drew upwards of 10,000 fans, still the stadium's record attendance. The present school was itself new in 1955, with the 1954 class being the last one to graduate from the old, old high school that was demolished in the summer of 2011. Check out pics of stadium. www.texas2afootball.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7184 I couldn't get either of the three links to open up for me. But yes, 6K for a 2a is really good and is probably better than at least 50% of the 4a stadiums out there. As far as Tom's question....... 1) Seating capacity 2) parking 3) concessions - enough of them and the poeple to run them - HEROES SUCKS IN THIS RESPECT 4) plenty of toilets 5) sound system 6) traffic flow (getting out after the game) These six things to me are probably the most important. We get a lot of flack for our little stadium in Schertz...seats about 8k or so. To be honest, we love Lehnhoff Field and playing there. No, it is not big by 4a, much less 5a standards but it is home and we are snug as a bug in a rug and will stomp a mud hole in you there! Steele has not lost a game in that stadium since moving up to 5a so we are fine with it as is! I like those stadiums with no sound system. The less I hear from the games announcer the better. We should start another thread: Stadiums with the worse or most annoying Game Announcer. United ISD in Laredo gets my first place vote. Alice goes from having the best (the man who did it forever up until about 10 years ago) to somewhere on the bottom.

I don't mind the video boards, but do mind the background noise that comes with them. But that is how they pay for those things with the advertising money. I rather have the bands and the such provide the background noise. Being that high school football doesn't benefit from media timeouts like the colleges do, it's kind of hard for the high school production staff to coordinate advertising time for the video boards and the bands playing during timeouts or other breaks in the action.

Alice's Memorial Stadium has been voted Texas's best natural grass stadium in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 by Texas Turfgrass Association. We are a town of only 19k yet our stadium seats 10.5k and has the only end zone seating in the Coastal Bend. During the playoffs if we are playing a home game in at least the 2nd round, bleachers get added from end zone to end zone on the bottom of the stadium on the home side and visitors side which pushes the seating capacity up another couple of thousand. We have a video scoreboard as well and the most loyal, devoted fans in all of the Coastal Bend. cue the jealous PLC fans who are gonna start crying about our restrooms... It's a piece of crap. IMO

I hear portland is getting turf next year. City is pushing for it due to stricter water restrictions. The state has funded it and with new big business in the area they will chip in also hopefully.

Man, that is a great stadium without a doubt!!! Went back a few years ago to a game and man it was nice. Theater style seats with drink holders you name it. A long way from old Birdville Stadium and our practice field with goat heads on it.

I know the day is coming where we'll have to bond a new facility for the district or upgrade Steele's stadium on campus to a varsity game stadium. My wife picked up our season seats last Monday at the athletic office and Mrs Lehnhoff told here they are adding in a bunch more season seats this year for Steele as the demand has grown even more for the tickets. I believe what they are adding in this year will put roughly 1/2 of the home side in season seats now. If and when they do decide to build a 'district facility', I hope that sound planning and judgement goes into it and they build it on at least 100 acres with great access. A 10K-12K seat stadium would be the way to go to allow 4a and 5a playoff games to be played there through the regional finals. I'm relatively sure a site like this would cost upwards of $40m if done right but when you think of how long it would service the district it is not all that shocking when you consider most new ele schools run $12m-$15m and middle schools are anywhere from $20m-$40m!

My beef is with announcers (or whoever is doing it) who feel the need to play terrible music during every timeout. (I'm looking at you, Northwest ISD.) I've never had any use for the video screen. I just saw the damn play live. Maybe if they didn't have those people would actually watch the game.

They'll basically have to add on to it if Clemens is going to go 5A. You can't get away with a tiny visitor's side if Steele's fans are ever going to be sitting over there.

Well, I think our visitor's side now is about 3K or so including the endzone bleachers that are normally allotted to the visiting side for teams that bring a crowd. Not really small but at the same time not near big enough for 4a and 5a teams that have big followings and for sure not big enough for 'big ballgames'! The problem with simply adding more seating to Lehnoff Stadium is that parking already can get a little tough when it is a full house. I think if more seating was added, parking would be the killer. At the Steele campus there is still room to add another 10+ acres of parking if the stadium was upgraded. The existing field is nice, but it only has stands on one side that probably seat about 1500-2000. That side could be converted to 4000 by simply extending it goal line to goal line and a new home side of about 6K built with press box. New, larger concessions and restrooms also built and then it would be good to go. I still like the idea of each school having their 'own' stadium instead of shared district facilities. IMO, having your own stadium where only you play gives a team more of a homefield advantage and possibly even a deeper identity as well. I know the Comal schools all have their own and the plan for future HS campuses is to do the same for them as well. I'd very much like to see SCUCISD try and do the same even knowing the cost involved.

Well, my thought was that they would need to expand the visitor's side just for the possibility of Steele being the visitor! I can see the arguments both ways. It's a lot easier for Denton ISD to justify a 12,000-seat stadium for both Ryan and Guyer than to justify building two that seat a little less than that. I know Guyer has its own field for practice and subvarsity games but that one MIGHT seat 2000. My old school district in Tennessee gave each of its eight high schools its own field. But they were the rough equivalent of a 2A stadium here.
