What? They left out the Port Lavaca Calhoun Sandcrabs??? The 18-0 Regular season undefeated Distict 31-4A two year champs??? Actually it's 19-0 and we play in 30-4a, the same district as your Wildcats. There are a few head scratchers on the list for sure, but I like where the Crabs are. No one but them and their fans have faith, not a bad position to be in at the start of the year. I do think the CB as a whole were overlooked. With FB, Calallen, and PLC here I would have thought one of us would be in the top 25, but it's a big city business and their isn't one big enough in this area. Although it's nice to hear your team introduce as the # whatever team in the state, that has not worked out very well for us. I've said before, I'd rather be ranked #50, 8-2 and go 4-5 rounds than # 8 and go 2 rounds.

Yeah, Guyer seemed to play worse at the start of last season when they were ranked #1 than they did after the 0-2 start and everyone sort of forgot about them (forgot is the wrong word... "overlooked" probably works better.)

Preseason polls really don't mean much. 2010 FB was ranked in the top 10. I think it was 8th. Worst season of the last 10. Also a word to the wise for PLC. FB had the biggest line they had ever had that year. Being athletic is much more important after a certain size is met.

I agree, big guys don't get scholarships, big guys with athleticism do, glad two of them currently have offers, which mean they are athletic. Let me ammend that rather than edit. One for sure has offer according to my kid, the other has D1 schools looking a him. No offers as of yet. Now that's not written in concrete as 17 year old kids ha been known to be wrong before 17 year old over stating the case? ?? Say it ain't so. We were pretty high on that group as one of them had even won the state shot put gold. Anyway we will all find out pretty soon who has what. I have a theory that the learning curve for HS teams is pretty steep and after two and a half games you pretty much know what you have by that second half of the third game usually.

Well I'm making fun of Calhoun here, but our learning curve consists option right, option left, option up the middle. Really, there is a lot more to it than that. But I couldn't resist. The blocking schemes from the linemen to the receivers can be tricky. That's one thing good teams do, is block block block, and as a receiver on Calhoun, you will be expected to block, because that's what breaks off the long ones.

Difference is these guys are athletic and big. I think Rios has a shot to be a D1 guy too. He's only gonna be a sophmore at 6'3"-4" . 290 and can run. Still growing.

But despite Guyer having way more talent than Alice, I have my feelings you guys would have extreme problems solving Alice's Slot-t formation. We played better teams than Guyer back in 2010 and 2011 in Port Arthur Memorial. And despite the big losses in those games we did move the ball against them fairly easily despite them having a ton of D1 committs. You teams from further north never see offenses like the Slot-t and have problems with it as a result.

Guyer had problems stopping pretty much everybody, the offense just outscored them.

I just could care less about Guyer so excuse me for not knowing about their lack of defense.
