In 30-4A I see PLC, Cal and GP for sure now will they allow a varsity "B" team ;-)cause if so I think PLC or Cal could grab that fourth spot that way too... If not I see a dog fight again for #4 from the remaining team with One of the Victoria schools sliding in again as Beeville and TM continue to improve. But it'd be nice to see TM come all the way up to a playoff spot.

The amount of D1 players on a team doesn't always tell a clear story. Calallen never has D1 talent and they always seem to get to the semi-finals, even made state a few years ago. The 2008 Alice team put up more points on Austin Lake Travis than any of Travis's 16 opponents that season despite the fact that Lake Travis plays in a district loaded with D1 talent and Alice had no D1 talent. What hurts those teams loaded with D1 talent is most of them play selfishly. You have a bunch of kids on the team playing to impress D1 scouts rather than thinking "team" first. And that is what makes it so teams from down here can compete despite not being loaded with D1 talent. I agree d1 players can edefinately be selfish but I guess you skipped over the part about so tex being able to compete w/ so Texas? That is why they lose in the semis when they play region 3. . I like region 4 football more than the rest but I'm not delusional to think it is top tier in the state. I'm not sure how Region 4 isn't "top tier" if it's been putting out state champions every season. If you want to say "south texas" isn't "top tier" in regards to D1 talent then cool, I get that.

For the most part, I believe the coastal bend teams that are making noise these days do think we can compete with the top tier teams from the North and East. One of our problems is; we don't get many chances to prove it. I admit there are a lot more teams that make noise in the North and East and they beat up on each other all the time. In the coastal bend, when we beat up on each other, it's usually in the playoffs. Make a district with Calallen, Flour Bluff, PLC, EE, GP, KT, and Alice....then you will see an improvement in region IV.

All we heard last season was Leander, Leander, Leander.
Hornets are working on it. They will get there. :-)

Sort of the same issue the Valley teams have in 5A, they get one shot a year to prove themselves against the top teams in SA. Coastal Bend teams have trouble getting past Lake Travis (2007-11) and Cedar Park because those teams are really good. Getting whacked by LT just put them in the same boat with the rest of 4A. Against everybody else it doesn't look like the Coastal Bend's record is that bad.

I would love to see JT vs Calallen. What would be a good center point for that game?

Isn't Kyle Field natural grass though? Top notch grass field. What's wrong with grass? Nothing at all, but most coaches don't like to play on it, especially late in the season. At least, that's how most coaches in DFW are. Don't know about the rest of the state.
