Nine Heisman Trophy winners played high school football in Texas. Name them, and the high school they played at. (Obviously some have been previously brought up in this thread.) Robert Griffin III (Copperas Cove) Ty Hubert Detmer (Southwest High School in S.A.) Andre Ware (Dickinson High) Timothy Donell Brown (Woodrow Wilson High in Dallas) Billy Ray Sims (Hooks High in Hooks) Earl Christian Campbell (John Tyler High in Tyler) Ewell Doak Walder, Jr. (Highland Park High in Dallas) Robert David "Davey" O'Brien (Woodrow Wilson High in Dallas) Not sure who the Ninth is... yet Manziel, duh.... Dang, I totally forgot....

Only one school in the country can boast of having two Heisman Trophy winners....its a 4a Team from Texas.....and my alma mater...can you name it.... By the way... this actually isn't true. Mater Dei HS in Santa Ana, CA, also has two Heisman Trophy winners: John Huarte (1964, Notre Dame) Matt Leinart (2004, USC) A catholic private school produced Heisman winners for rivals.

Those nicknames are unusual, to be sure, but not so out there that they make you say "WTF is a Vok?" Buffs almost doesn't count since it's just a shortened form of "Buffaloes" (very common.) Exporters is sort of cool. I thought Whitefaces was racial before I knew what a white face Hereford was.

New trivia question, in the spirit of the final round of the British Open.
One person has won both the UIL state golf championship and the British Open. Name him.
(Hunter Mahan can make it two if he wins tomorrow; he starts the final round two shots back.)

Ben-Bolt, George West, Mathis, Sinton, Refugio, C.C. Ray, C.C. Miller, Ingleside, G-P, Calallen, Kingsville, and back in 1934 and 1938 a school named Corpus Christi made it. I'm assuming that's pre-Miller. Not sure if it was called Corpus Christi High or what. These are the teams I was thinking about. Also, according to C.C. Millers wikipedia, Corpus Christi High was changed to Roy Miller High School in 1950. 1934 Amarillo 48, Corpus Christi 0 1938 Corpus Christi 20, Lubbock 6 1956 4A - Abilene 14, Corpus Christi Ray 0 1958 3A - Breckenridge 42, Kingsville 14 1959 4A - Corpus Christi Ray 20, Wichita Falls 6 1960 4A - Corpus Christi Miller 13, Wichita Falls 6 3A - Brownwood 26, Port Lavaca 6 1962 1A - Rotan 39, Ingleside 6 1963 4A - Garland 17, Corpus Christi Miller 0 1A - Petersburg 20, George West 12 1964 1A - Archer City 13, Ingleside 6 1968 3A - Lubbock Estacado 14, Refugio 0 1970 2A - Refugio 7, Iowa Park 7 (tie) CO-CHAMPIONS 1971 3A - Plano 21, Gregory-Portland 20 1976 B - Gorman 18, Ben Bolt 6 1987 2A - Loerna 8, Refugio 7 1999 3A Division I - Liberty Eylau 49, Mathis 6 2001 3A Division I - Everman 25, Sinton 14 2005 4A Division II - Lewisville Hebron 28, Calallen (Corpus Christi) 0 2009 T-CAL Div. II - C.C. Annapolis 73, Bastrop Tribe Cons. 33 2010T-CAL DII β San Marcos Area Christian 66, Corpus Christi Annapolis 52 20112A DII β Refugio 36, Cisco 35 I failed to mention The Green Hornets of CC Coles High School. They made it to the PVIL state championship 4 times and won 2 of them. 1947 - PVIL 2A Fort Worth Terrell -- 13 CC Coles ------------ 6 1948 - PVIL 2A CC Coles ------------ 6 Dallas Washington --- 0 1952 - PVIL 3A Waco Moore ---------- 14 CC Coles ------------ 0 1960 - PVIL 3A CC Coles ------------ 38 WF Washington ------- 21 A Coastal Bend team has made it to the State championship in every decade except the 1920s and 1910s. Also, The Green Hornets was a pretty cool mascot.

Four Texans have won the British Open, but only one also won a state championship. The others: Ben Hogan (who predated the UIL state championship for golf), Bill Rogers (no clue), and Lee Trevino (dropped out in the 7th grade.)

But the Arkansas school of the deaf leopards is the best! I wonder if their fight song is love bites or pour some sugar on me....
