I think it can help your D with some things....you can run a Cover 2 or a Cover 3 and also some man....I have seen alot of teams play their base coverages they use during the Fall....and speaking for Mercedes they are running the same spread offense passing plays they use in the fall....
i dont think it translates to tackle football at all but i think it does allow the QB and his WR's to learn the verbage and run the plays all summer in a not boring environment and it allows them to compete against other defenses who dont see the plays everyday...
on D i think it does the same....it allows them to use different coverages and see different athletes and compete.....
its when you are doing the playground stuff out there that translates to nothing that i think it is a complete waste of time....

Not sure if you are just yanking cujo's chain but he is all about John Tyler. Yes I am a big homer. To be honest I know nothing about south texas football. Only DFW and East Texas. Really didn't know on the JT, figured if I compared the two JTs Id get a reply. No animosity here, just a little ribbing

I am much more interested in watching how the lineman do in the strength and conditioning drills, than 7 on 7 football. Personally, I would rather see the kids hitting the weights and working on their conditioning.

Teams who do 7on7 can still spend as much time hitting the weights, and they do, 7on7 is just another tool used to get ready for the upcoming season. Looking forward to the 7on7 state tournament this weekend.

I know Ingleside 7on7 team hit the weight hard and still practice, I talk to the AD at the Shriners game and he told me this is the biggest turn out in the weight room he's seen over the summer since his time here. plus Ingleside just open up a Snap fitness center in town and I here a lot of kids are working out there as well. Ingleside will be playing Thursday and Friday in the state tourney in pool D against Navasota, Coleman and Willis Point. Good luck Mustangs!!!!
