Sad. The players did not call the illegal practices. What were they supposed to do? The adults calling the shots are the guilty here.

I would disagree with that assessment.....EE had a parent of a senior on the team turn them in.....prior to turning them in he approached Coach Solis directly and got nowhere with it..... this was not a he said she said type of thing.....this parent had quite a bit of video and audio..... If Solis would have owned up to it....I think the DEC punishes him and makes them forfeit their week 0 win...but he fought them on it..... Same thing happended last year with the now ex coach of Hidalgo starting padded practices a couple of days early.... he owned up to it....they made them forfeit a game and he was suspended for the first district game...... I don't know if he would have owned up to it or not if the DEC would have been less harsh. I do know (rightly or wrongly) EE is among a handful of schools down that way who are ripe to be taken to the woodshead if an opportunity knocks by their peers because of the rivalaries down that way. The fact the parent had some pretty iron clad evidence sort of made it easier if you will to do so. It might have chilled some since I lived down that way. But back in my day, you had cousins and other relatives who couldn't even eat Thanksgiving dinner together because of the rivalaries between some of the towns. What was the parent's motives other than the long practices? Did they have other issues beyond that? You noted the Hidalgo situation and why they got off on a lighter punishment? The same could have been done with EE with their coach being suspened for the rest of the year and a recomendation for EE to terminate his contract instead of flushing the rest of the kids season down the toliet. That's why I noted the rest of the district saw blood and followed through accordingly. Really not fair to those Seniors who worked their rears off for six years going back to middle school in order to have fun their last year in school. “It’s a very difficult time when you make decisions that involve individuals,” said DEC chairman Michael Uribe, head coach at Mercedes High. “But the District Executive Committee has to take action on the information presented, and that’s what happened.” I think you're on to the severity part Stiffy. On our worst day CB teams are bussom buddies compared to these two.

Just as an FYI....the vote was 5-1 with Mercedes not voting because they are the district chair this year and EE not voting for obvious reasons..... This has nothing to do with the rivalry.....somebody from the other schools chose this punishment and by a 5-1 vote the other schools agreed.....

This is all politics and rivalry. The kids are the ones that are being unfairly admonished. If you think it was all good and fair I got some property in the Republic of Wadiya for sale you can buy real cheap.

EE has a target on their back and some of it is deserved, and some it (maybe a whole bunch of it) is not. The punishing schools will say that politcs were not involved, but like you noted about the property in the Republic of Wadiya, I will up it to some ocean front property in Arizona and the Brooklyn Bridge for a package deal. It helps to step out of the bubble for awhile and look at things from the outside.

No one's gonna say they got what was coming to them. But there are ways to support the decision, without getting your hands dirty with rivalry, spite, and political rhetoric. Don't preach it to the sky, ...a simple private phone call among those members and they were probably guilty before the facts were even brought in..Not supporting the coach at all.. but yes..feel for the kids, especially the SRS

EE vs Roma? Is it an "US against the world" game? or a big let down game?

Here's a news story on it www.rgvsports.com/articles/elsa-12184-season-football.htmlIf I read between the lines in the article, it looks like EE had no good will built up with their counterparts in the district and the hammer came out real quick. Knowing the area, alot of it is politics as some communites can't stand each other on and off the fields of competetion. The other part of it certainly was self inflicted where they had no lifelines to use. Interesting that they hammer EE on illegal practices when a few years ago (2008) they had a proven ineligible player and yet were not punished.

I have been told - for what its worth - that the UIL will likely NOT overturn the DEC decision due to the new laws limiting practice time. UIL will want to send a clear message that violating the new laws and rules will be severely punished

Interesting that they hammer EE on illegal practices when a few years ago (2008) they had a proven ineligible player and yet were not punished. During the 2008 issue they filed an injunction to prevent the DEC from ruling...they opted to take their chances with the State and it worked out for them..... Apparently this parent had quite a few hours of video and audio that implicated them pretty well..... I am not sure whether the State Committee has ever dealt with one of these so I have no idea how they will rule.... The DEC also sent up the chain the issue with regard to school personnel being heavily involved with the 7on7 this past spring and summer.... Not sure if that will be looked at, at the same time or at a later time.... but two violations cant possible help them and then you factor in whether any of those same folks may have been on the commitee a few years back.....
