Yeah that was a shocker. He’s fast and has good ball skills as a DB, but I don’t see him matching up with any Power 4 starting wideouts. I hope it works out for him and he does well. Hopefully he stays healthy and can compete. Some kids it works out for and others it doesn't. It will definitely takes some mental toughness no doubt. Hopefully he can develop his skill level to be able to contribute on special teams and defense. A 4.65 is fast for high school, but at D1 college level it’s just not fast enough to compete. Hopefully he can contribute enough to earn a scholarship in the future. Congrats to him for comitting himself to the Longhorns.

He was an interception machine, and rarely got burned over the top until the Taylor game, although they were in more of a cover 2 zone on both of their long TDs. He also came up with two big INTs in that one. Biggest return was probably the opening TD return against Calallen in 2022, but I think he had a few various returns, defensive and special teams, that were called back on holding penalties this year. Hopefully he contributes and earns that elusive former walk-on scholly so many strive for.

There are players like Rhett Anderson from Alamo Heights that are twice the player Bruce is and Anderson didn’t and won’t sniff the field. I believe kids like Bruce want to just say they were “on the team” meaning the sidelines. And that’s fine.

Not saying you are wrong, because it surprised me as well, but the coaching staff gives preferred walk-on status to kids they want but aren’t yet worth burning a scholly on. If he were just a regular walk-on, this wouldn’t be newsworthy. McCoy is a kid that plays hard and has enough talent to see the field at any HS level. Plenty of starting 6A athletes don’t make any college roster. He’d probably be on the sidelines at a DeSoto or Northshore type program. As for Baize…..I think Hendrix supplants him this year at some point so not disagreeing with you there. He had a generational offensive line and solid targets his sophomore state campaign, not so much last season.

Boerne hasn’t been a 5A (old 4A) school since before Champion broke off. This is their old stomping grounds, sort of. Boerne will finish either 1st or 2nd. But probably 2nd. Boerne probably should’ve been 5A two years ago.

I also think both Tivy and VW are improving and depending what they bring back it could be a heck of race for 2nd through 4th in this district. VW gave CC Miller all they could handle in the 3rd round last year and Tivy lost 2 district games to Lockhart & SA Vets by a combined 3 points. There will be one team left out of the playoffs that is a pretty damn solid 5a D2 team that is for sure. 1 AH 2 VW 3 Boerne 4 Tivy I just cannot see SA Vets improving after losing a great RB like the one they just had. I think they take a step backwards this season.

PWOs are very often handed out as “friends and family” deals. I am guessing they have some connections at tu, happens everywhere.

Too much Jeckel and Hyde, and they're not going to be facing the weak competition that they have been. I'll bet you a Shiner Bock and a prime rib, that Tivy will beat them. 😀

And, I wouldn't take that bet against Tivy ever but I will buy you a cold one or two when we finally meet up! lol This will be a really, really fun district to watch the next two seasons. Should be some real battles in it

I could see both Alamo Heights & Boerne battle for the 1 & 2 spots in their district but the 3 & 4 spots could be up for grabs

It will be a salty district but depend on whether Boerne can regain their moxy on defense. Offense should be fine and score points in bunches with the seniors that are returning.

We shall find out till come August to find out where the Greyhounds are at despite the upcoming seniors who’ve been varsity since sophomores they’ll be some young kids that are going to have to grow & step up

Victoria West QB and RB where a big part of that offense last year they lose them both plus they lose other key players. The team will be rebuilding next year not sure what they got coming up will see one thing about Victoria is family’s moving in all the time maybe the gods will send them a QB.

Welcome to 5A Boerne🫣
8/16 @new Braunfels (SCR) 8/23 vs Liberty Hill (SCR) 8/30 @ Comal Pieper (5A-1) 9/5 vs Laredo United (6A) 9/13 @ Medina Valley (6A) 9/20 vs East Central (6A) 9/27 @ Alamo Heights* 10/11 vs Harlandale* 10/18 @ Victoria West* 10/25 vs SA Vets* 11/1 @ McCollum* 11/8 vs Tivy*
Loaded front end of the schedule for sure. The 6As aren’t world beaters but Medina Valley is +1000 kids and EC and LU are +2000 to Boerne. No more big dog vs small schools, they’d better be conditioned and the second stringers ready to take some snaps.
