warcat Super DR. Clore was a political super padding his retirement. Coach Anastacio made some mistakes as a lot of Coach's make mistakes even Coach Paul Bear Bryant. Coach Anastacio is hooked up with a former Brownwood player for his boss and has the same growth mindeset and look for them to do well at Llano. I went to some games at Giddings and the Giddings fans support their teams very well. The fans here in Sinton support their team very well. Sinton is getting a new HS at present.

Matt had many issues during his time at GP. He even admitted to me he had made a mistake by not demanding he bring in more of his own coaches and he at times felt he was working in a hostile environment. There was more about how some people on the booster club who felt that Matt had lied to them about some issues. All of this took a toll on Matt and then he had health issues that lead to him taking time off from coaching to have surgery and rehab. To be honest Matt had been looking for the right opportunity to leave GP for some time. I truly don’t think Matt would again take a HC/AD job unless he had the right Supt, ability to hire his own coaches and had full support of booster club. Matt and his family are much happier now at Llano.

Booster clubs can be good, but a lot of the times they are crooked and power hungry. I have worked at schools that did away with them, and the athletic programs thrived, although the fund raising was more difficult. I have also been at schools where the boosters had so much power they made coaching decisions, and those programs crashed and burned. I have been in programs where the booster club ran well, was supportive, and stayed in their lane, and those programs also thrived. For a 1st time head coach it's hard to deal with a non supportive admin while also dealing with a power hungry booster.

I can tell you the GP booster club was not “power hungry”. We supported Anastacio at the beginning. Very first meeting he attended we were discussing getting the program going and what we anticipated raising, (which was about 30K as I recall) his response, with a face that looked like he smelled a fart, was “Plano booster club raises 250K/yr” from that point on he made it clear he had no use for booster club. Rarely attended meetings etc. asked us to move golf Tournament from fall to spring so football coaches would be able to participate. We did. None participated.
He was not truthful to players. He was a mediocre coach at best.

Interesting opinions. Coach Matt Anastacio cut his teeth under Coach Darren Allman who cut his teeth under Coach Gordon Wood and Coach Randy Allen. There are a lot of coaches who have hand me down expierience such as Coach Jason Herring who cut his teeth under Coach Sam Harrell who cut his teeth under Coach Gordon Wood. There is one that came from Stamford to Miller HS that won a state title that cut his teeth under Coach Gordon Wood

LOL How in the world does a school raise AND SPEND $250k in one year?

And he would have players at clubhouse in the morning to greet golfers and carry their bags to carts. When it was tournament time I asked him. He said he couldn’t ask players to come to golf course because beer was served there. No players or coaches attended.

LOL How in the world does a school raise AND SPEND $250k in one year? Have your never been to Plano? It’s one of the original “new” burbs in the DFW area that took off in the 70s. Perot Systems, Frito Lay, Toyota North America, and JC Penney are among a number of companies who had or have their Headquarters in Plano. So yea $250k is totally believable. It’s kind of getting to be an “old money” burb now thanks to Frisco, Allen and McKinney taking the ball on that side of the Metroplex which Melissa will soon join that group.

I talked to a Junior High school coach this morning who had left the 91st Annual THSCA Coaching School and Convention in Houston and he said they had 17,000 in attendance.

Those of you that are familiar with Coach Chris Jones who was OC at Sinton and then AD/HC at Refugio and then to LaMarque and then Post and Giddings and retired at Pecos,TX has now come out of retirement and back Coaching at Winters/Blizzards.

From my understanding it was something Bruce Bush brought with him there. Sounds like he needed to grow up and take accountability. The most coaches a team could have was 2. It was a ton of fun, and afterwards we all had a huge luncheon and just enjoyed the fellowship.
