Drove by yesterday to see what was happening at GP stadium. All the old turf is gone and the track is being demolished. They are also doing work to improve the drainage system. I was told that they will be installing the newest artificial turf that Hellas has to offer. They also wanted to upgrade the track. Also noticed they are doing the ground work to start construction on the new indoor practice facility. Lots of work going on at Ray Akins stadium.

Thought it was just an inspection team. Cant wait til everything is complete.

I did not see anything in the bond election about getting new turf or new track so this must be an upgrade from old 6 yrs to newest turf. There are many schools in the area getting turf installed or replaced this summer. I just read an article a few days ago about Rockport getting turf this summer. Hellas is going to be very busy this summer.

Turf probably makes the most sense, especially in S Texas where grass growing can be tough, but I just like real grass/dirt. Especially on baseball infields.

Especially on baseball infields. Hellas has laid turf in many venues in GP. High school and middle school football fields, all the city baseball fields, the Pop Warner football field and soon they will be putting turf on baseball and softball fields. I might start buying stocks for Hellas Co.

Especially on baseball infields. It amazes me how many baseball and softball fields have went to turf even in the infield with just a small dirt circle around each base... I especially never thought softball would go that direction... I like real grass fields, but I understand the cost savings of the artificial grass they use now...

Which is the exact opposite with most colleges . If you want to host a Softball regional or Super regional from what I understand, you can’t have turf infield and outfield. Foul territory can be turf for some odd reason like it is at UT. There is only a handful of college baseball teams at the D1 level who have turf and right off my head I think two of them are here in Texas with that being Tech and UT. More of your smaller schools have turf . But the same no turf rule for regional and supers doesn’t apply to baseball for some odd reason. There has been some chatter UT might go back to grass for DKR when they join the SEC since only Mizzou has turf in the SEC. It will be interesting to see in Disch Faulk goes grass too. But I dont think I’ve ever seen it with natural grass as it was built in the 1970’s when turf was revolutionary and was even installed in places like the Orange Bowl.

Didn't Alice get rid of their turf crew recently? Better hope the new guys know what they're doing.

Baylor softball is all turf outfield. They have been host to regional and super regional softball games. I haven't been to their baseball stadium, but I know their football stadium is turf. I had heard a rumor that during the renovations at Kyle field, they discussed turf, and the boosters almost went ballistic and threatened to fire anyone who thought of touching their beloved field. It definitely has it's issues for teams not familiar with playing on turf. Cutting and route running is especially effected. I forgot what game it was this past season, but one of the major college games, every time they got near midfield or ran near any painted section, the players fell down on their own. Even the commentators were discussing it, and how it was ruining that particular game.

I miss the grass on the football field too. And it was good for calallan, gave them another excuse as to why they lost at GP 😁 (too sandy, too much crown, yada yada yada!)

If you need fertilizer for your grass field, GPJohn can probably furnish it for you. I understood there were less injuries with gras and been told I was wrong. The turf may be better in rainy weather. The Portland city softball field a Has turf on all four fields and when my great grand daughter his to the out field the ball rolls all the way to the fence. The Pee Wee field is turf.
