I graduated with Ford. He was a hell of a football player. Haven’t seen him in years but he was an awesome dude back then. I’m guessing nothing has changed and East got themselves a good one. I’m definitely rooting for him.

STAY THE COURSE Victoria East OC John Ford promoted to head football coach

The only move John Ford will have to make will be down the hall to a different office.
The VISD board of trustees by a unanimous vote accepted the recommendation of Athletic Director Spencer Gantt and promoted Ford from offensive coordinator to head football coach at Victoria East at Thursday night's meeting.
"Professionally it’s a dream come true," Ford said. "I always wanted to be a head coach. To get the opportunity is a special moment."
Ford will replace Charlie Reeve, who resigned earlier this month after one season to become the athletic director and head football coach at Calallen.
Ford came to East from Gonzales last season to become Reeve’s offensive coordinator.
The Titans averaged over 294 yards and 33 points per game, while going 8-4 and winning their first playoff game since 2016.
"Coach Reeve came in and got the program moving in the right direction," Ford said. "I’m looking to continue that and building on things that we were able to accomplish last year."
Reeve coached Ford at Texas State and is happy to see him take over the East program.
“I think John is a great fit for that job,” Reeve said. “It’s a good fit for the kids, a good fit for the coaching staff to continue to carry on what we started to build there.”
Ford hopes to retain most of the present staff, including defensive coordinator Wayne Condra
Along with Gonzales, Ford has also coached at Hutto, Leander Rouse, Georgetown East View, New Caney and Pasadena Dobie.
“He’s had a history of being at a lot of great places and he brings a wealth of knowledge to the position,” Reeve said. “There’s no doubt he’s ready for the job. He puts kids first and he’s going to do a great job.”
The Titans started spring drills Monday, and plan to continue practices until May 16, when they will hold a spring game or scrimmage.
Ford becomes the fourth coach at East since the school opened in 2010, and third in three seasons.
He follows Mickey Finley, Roland Gonzalez and Reeve.
"A lot of it is just getting the kids to understand doing all the little things right," Ford said. "All the details matter. Taking care of your business.
"When you get the culture of the team gong in the right direction, they take it over and understand what’s expected. They get to go out and play the game."
The UIL’s realignment moved East into District 13-5A, Division I with Boerne Champion, San Antonio Pieper, Smithson Valley, New Braunfels, San Antonio MacArthur, San Antonio Wagner, and Seguin.
The Titans will play Georgetown, Victoria West and Gregory-Portland in non-district games.

Congrats! If he is anything like his mom and dad as far as disciplinarian and work ethic, East got them a strong one. He was definitely raised right by Rick and Robin. I will be cheering for the Titans to do well. He was pretty intense on the sidelines last year. He definitely would let the offensive lineman know when they blew their blocking assignments lol.... I like his energy!! I'm intrigued to see what the young man can do with East. I think he'll be just fine!

Two things can be true; Victoria East's new district is much tougher and probably didnt fire anyone up about trying to get a playoff spot but Calallen's a better job that Victoria East also IDK man, Victoria has some of the best "hole in the wall" Mexican Restaurants in South Texas!

He would on more than one occasion throw objects at students in the Ag building for being idiots, or put his Aggie ring in/through their chest to get their attention. Eraser concussions were a real thing for sleeping or lazy students too... But we didn't complain. That was how it was, you mess around you win idiotic prizes... He made us better Ag students, heck he made us better men!

Reeve will get NO credit for anything there unless he wins a state championship whereas in Victoria he would have been worshipped if he just started winning playoff games which he did this year for the first time since I think 2016. He'll get as much credit for winning at Calallen as the new Alabama coach will get if he keeps winning at Alabama, none.

Chino it’s just possible that Reeves never gets all the accolades he deserves at Calallen. What credit did Danaher get in his first year at Calallen? He was a good young HC with a plan to hire the right coaches to help him and build up the program at Calallen and eventually those long playoff runs and accolades accumulated in all those decades of coaching. What motivates a good young coach like Reeves? His whole life has revolved around coaches and coaching with some successful coaches all over Texas. What motivates them is exactly what motivated Danaher the day he signed on at Calallen back in the 1980”s. Reeves want the challenge to walk in the footsteps of Danaher, rebuild the program to what it used to be and just maybe a lil better. It’s been over 40 years that Danaher and Campbell ran the show at Calallen before anyone ran that program and Reeves was not expecting the job to open up when. He took the job at East. His Dad did great things at Cuero just as his brother did also at Cuero. His motivation is to rebuild a program that has decades of success and traditions back to what it once was.

Is reading a problem for you? You said a lot of stuff just to not even address my point. Reeve will not get credit for winning AT A PLACE THAT HAS BEEN WINNING FOR 4 DECADES ALREADY unless he wins a state championship. Whereas in Victoria he would have gotten credit just for even winning a couple of playoff games here and there. But I'm glad that you know that Reeve only took the East job because he didn't know the Calallen job would open up lol.

Not a better job? Had I been in better health I'd had applied for it myself!!! That job is a great one. Didn't say Calallen isn't a great job. But since you want to go there... a local coach with only 1 year HC experience was the best applicant that they had sooooooooooooo... apparently not many actual coaches thought it was a great one.

You have no idea who applied. We weren't looking for a coach with rings. How did that work out at GP? We wanted a young coach who wouldn't come in and change all of our traditions or shove the spread offense on us. We had a lot of expectations and boxes to check. Just lay off and stop it already. Your opinion is your opinion. Doesn't make it gospel. Lastly - you keep claiming that Charlie ran because he didn't have the balls for that district. Well he has the balls to step into Phil Danaher and Steve Campbell's shoes. That takes some big ones in my opinion.

I mean we could use some logic with that last point there and say that the idea of following Phil and Steve scared many away. So those that applied had big brass ones and weren't scared. So that's a good point calcatgirl....

Back to Vic East, I hope Ford does some great things here. I've known him since birth, so I want to see the young man do great things. His family is good people, and like I said before, his parents really impacted me as a student before I went to TM. They were there for our family when we lost my sister and when my brother was killed a year later.
