Pathetic as hell that even officials cannot take the heat
No wonder the kids being raised now are so damn soft and get their feelings hurt so easily.
Sorry, but those officials are paid to do what they do and if they make a truly bad call should expect some boos thrown their way.
And before anyone goes off their rocker, I'm not talking about anything profane, physical, or stupid like that.

I find it hard to believe that this would occur in a football venue due to the distances involved. I have seen incredibly bad behavior in basketball venues which is a smaller, more contained crowd and much closer proximity to the officials.

We saw the same TASO warning including they could refuse to officiate for repeat offending schools.

Sorry, but those officials are paid to do what they do and if they make a truly bad call should expect some boos thrown their way. And before anyone goes off their rocker, I'm not talking about anything profane, physical, or stupid like that. It's a double edged sword. I have to wonder if this is more in response to basketball season and spring sports where the spectators are much closer to the action and can be heard easier than football? I get it that there is some real jackArses who sit in the stands at gyms and baseball/softball diamonds and make it their mission to complain about everything. Unless they don't start physical threatening the officials/Umps, they (Umps/Refs) do need to grow a thick skin. They are getting paid for their services too and it's side gig for many . I've unfortunately seen some fans go over the line at some basketball games to the point where one fan group was throwing stuff on the floor. This was a high school game and not a pro game where you'd expect this from a bunch of drunk and upset fans. Of course they need to dealt with accordingly. The officiating industry if you want to call it this needs to come to terms it needs to hold itself publicly more accountable for mistakes they make and this goes from the Pros down to the high school level. Unfortunately for them, we have damn good technology today that can show things that are missed by a mile that even a semi blind person could see that doesn't get called or is called so off the wall and get goes counter to every possible scenario for such foul or penalty in the rule book. Or like in the Alice/Lampassas game a kids helmet gets ripped off his head right in front of a Ref and the kid who got his helmet ripped off got called for a flag for continuing to play. Has anything been said about what remedy or repercussions that Ref and Crew received? Nope. All of that needs to be public. Released on the social media channels and press releases as it's submitted and reviewed by the UIL and TASO. They can't continue to have it both ways and demand fans. coaches, and players be held to responsibility while not showing they hold their own the same. They need to give it a try and see if that helps to cool things down a tad.

I can assure you this letter has to do with fan behavior at basketball games....you think football is bad...basketball is outta control and might be worse in girls hoops...
We have a confluence of many things going on right at the same time and its a storm thats been brewing for years.... 1) fan behavior overall has gotten worse 2) Experienced officials who are used to taking the abuse and have thick skin are aging out 3) Younger officials try officiating, they dont have thick skin, they are of a different generation so they say "screw it, the money isnt worth it, I'm not doing this" 4) The number of qualified officials drops, so now you throw younger officials who aren't qualified into varsity games right away..its a more competitive and hostile environment, the younger officials struggle, the quality of officiating drops because there's inexperienced officials working, fans get more ticked and it just builds on itself
We can all it soft, we can call it get thicker skin, but we can also call it reality and thats what schools face now..there's the reality of not having officials to call games so they've got to take drastic steps to retain the young officials that join so they dont quit after a year... I know there is accountabilty for officials who do a poor job, but its not going to be public...TASO's shortages have reacehd crisis levels, going public with a post that says "Joe Smith from the Corpus chapter missed this pass interference call and got a F grade in the Calallen vs Alice game on Oct 20" is not going to be good for retaining and attracting new membership

It's defiantly a no win the way you state it. I just hope the ISD's have their ducks in a row and don't accidently throw someone out of a game and then ban them to have it come back to bite them. There are Lawyers out there that would pounce on that in a heartbeat citing violations of constitutional rights to being subject to public humiliation.

As someone who has been an assistant AD and had to escort coaches, parents and even students out of games, it is crazy.
Basketball, baseball, and soccer fans are psycho!!! I've had to call cops and stop games until the cops escorted the individuals out in cuffs before.
We had to have umpires and refs escorted to cars by police as well and even opposing teams back to their busses during tournaments because of fan issues. Had people make threats and had to have the cops make sure they left the area completely, and have the cops follow the busses so that the crazies didn't follow the busses and hurt the coaches or kids. Stupid people!
Heck in the youth league my kids play soccer in, they've had parents arrested for fighting coaches and refs. They've had parents arrested for making death threats and found them with guns in the parking lot...

I miss those days, but then I donβt miss them. lol.
