Davenport's Coach Z faced Calhoun in 2019 with Boerne Champion (He was the OC). For that game, BC was told over and over that Calhoun was bigger on the lines, couldn't stop the run etc etc. It was a back-and-forth game in the 1st half, however, they were significantly slower than BC across the board. BC scored and moved the ball with ease due to speed. BC knew coming in they just had to get 1 or 2 stops on D, which they did and took it from there to win by 10. Score could have been higher but fumbled going into the endzone late in the game. Man....Calhoun fans sure turned out for that game, impressive #s. That was then......maybe no similarities to these teams. I haven't watched any film on either. Calhoun's playoff run is impressive and have admired them since that game. BC missed Coach Z big time after he left (2020), huge gaping hole in leadership (now finally filled this past season) I had no clue that Davenport's OC came over from BC. Coach Z is the Head coach of Davenport, was BC OC. Great guy and coach

Tivy played Davenport earlier in the year and beat them and we ended up not being great. Y'all can beat them just have to get some turnovers. Tivy picked them apart for sure and put up almost 500 total yards on them with nearly 400 of that passing! Taylor actually threw for well over 400 on them to. Davenport's defense is not real good IMO this year. They've allowed 25 ppg average to their 13 opponents and 7 of the 13 teams they've played have put up 28 or more on them. And it is not just the pass defense either as they've allowed some big games running the ball as well to Lockhart (364) and LV last week (184). PLC has only allowed 2 teams to get to 28 or more, Beeville (28) & Zapata (36). I definitely think PLC is going to have success running it on them. I also believe PLC has the better defense of the two. So in a nutshell I think for PLC to win this game they need to stay right with them from the start and just not get down by more than a score or two early so that they do not have to start chasing and doing things they are not built for. I went looking for stats and found that the Alice offensive stats from last week were not there for PLC game and the Burnet games for both teams were also missing. Beeville's offensive stats were there versus PLC but not versus Davenport. So, it'd be difficult to really compare the defensive stats for both these teams against their common opponents. Of the 9 teams each has faced that did enter their offensive stats in Maxpreps, below is what stands out. Please keep in mind that for PLC the 4 teams that didn't enter offensive stats are Pleasanton, R-F, Burnet, & Alice. For Davenport the 4 teams that didn't enter stats were Canyon Lake, Burnet, Marble Falls, & Beeville. PLC allowed only 2 teams 400+ yards - Yoakum and Zapata Dav allowed 5 teams with 400+ yards - VW, Tivy, Lockhart, TAylor, & LV PLC allowed under 300 total yards in 3 games - Stafford, West Oso, & LV Dav allowed under 300 total yards in 2 games - Devine & Fredericksburg PLC defense avg in the 9 games stats were available for gave up an average of 170 yards passing, 1.3 TDs per game, .8 INTs per game, 143 yards rushing per game on an avg of 5.6 ypc and 19.2 points per game. Dav defense avg in the 9 games stats were available for gave up an average of 243 yards passing, 1.8 TDs per game, .6 INTs per game, 139 yards rushing per game on an avg of 4.7 ypc and 26.2 points per game. Ask and you shall receive. Calhoun Burnet First Downs 26 17 Rushing 392 73 Passing 43 159 Total 435 232 Penalties 45 20 Calhoun Alice First Downs 15 19 Rushing 194 130 Passing 106 232 Total 300 362 Penalties. 35 55 The Zapata game, heading into the fourth quarter the defense gave up only 14 points before pulling some defensive starters..

Sorry....I will have to disagree. Yes, the clock can become an issue vs a team that depends on the run, but Davenport can score in one play. I'll be taking the team that can score quickly vs. any run-heavy team in this one. The clock will NOT become an issue for Davenport, but could become an issue for the Calhoun offense. I see Davenport winning this game by 2 TDs. I think Davenport would have a more difficult task defending against a more balanced attack that would have the ability to score more quickly. To my thinking, this matchup favors Davenport more than PLC. Did you watch the Calhoun Alice game? Calhouns first Offensive Drive, Two Plays 70+ yards and A touchdown. If you follow Calhoun at all you will see they can and often do score in a hurry. To beat them you have to do exactly what they try to do. Long drives that keep their offense off the field and wear on that defense.

Davenport lost to Burnet because of two really bad turnovers, one early on Burnet 1 yard line that would have put Davenport up 14 - 0 and the other fumble late as Davenport was in Burnet territory about to get the go ahead score. I understand fumbles/turnovers are part of football however giving some context on this game. Davenport will give up points, if PLC can hold win time of possession with their impressive running game then this game could be close. I watched Davenport live this year, their qb and skill players are very good. Looking forward to this game!!

I agree that the 2 fumbles that Davenport had probably cost them the win in that game but when you give up 41 you have set yourself up for a loss. I also agree that the offense is very good. But, Burnet played Davenport more than even having 448 total yards to Davenport's 412. I think PLC will have some success running the ball against the Wolves and really shorten this game up and cutting the # of not only their possessions down, but also the Wolves' possessions. I see 7 possessions for each team so each one is going to be very, very important to each team! I do NOT see this game getting much over 56 on the O/U and maybe even below it unless Davenport's defense really struggles against that triple option and gives up some long scores.

When two playoff teams meet for a regional final....usually the team with the more prolific scoring offense and the better passing game prevails. UNLESS the defense of the opponent is so stellar that they have literally shut down prolific offenses all season long. But I don't think we see that in PLC. It's easier to limit a very good running attack than to limit a very good balanced attack with a very good passing QB and receivers. Coaching staffs can gameplan better for a run-heavy team....even though Franklin has had great success pounding the ball....and so has Liberty Hill. Both teams have ground games I would rate superior, and certainly superior to that of PLC. But still....there has to be a very good defense to get stops against a team that can put up the points....particularly in the passing game. The good part for Davenport is that IF and WHEN they are leading late....they have the capability to run the ball to burn clock, and to move those chains with a balanced attack. And IF they are behind, they have the capability with their offensive scheme to score very quickly.

I'd have to say that the PLC defense is pretty damn good as they held Burnet to 14 just 2 weeks ago and did the same to a dinged up Allice offense last week. I honestly do not see either team running away with this one. PLC has been here before and will not be blinded by the bright lights. We will have to see if Davenport will be in their first trip to the regional title game.

Uncle coached in Boerne for a long time, his girls are now at Davenport, and they are also really good athletes as well.
