This game will kick at 7:00 pm in Stephenville at Tarleton State's Memorial Stadium. It's a very nice stadium that was renovated in 2019 and then even more in 2022. Capacity is now 24,500 with a huge video scoreboard....some seatback chairs on the home side, and new bleachers throughout. Pressbox is 2nd-story w/suites. Argyle and Wylie met here last season in the Regional Final which Argyle won 35-28. Both schools are exactly 122 miles from this venue. This season they meet in the Area Round.

These two school are rivals from the Class 4A days in many sports, and esp. in football. Nothing has changed much now that both are in 5A....in football and other sports as well. So that means the numbers, records, and everything else becomes less meaningful when these two schools meet in any UIL competition....but especially on the Gridiron of Glory on Friday Nights. Argyle does hold the All-time Game History in football at 6-2. Some were predistrict meetings but most were playoff meetings.

Argyle is only (8-2) because they had a game against Grapevine cancelled after one quarter due to lightning and storms. Argyle led 7-0, but the game was called off after a couple of hours of waiting. Argyle has averaged right at 46.5 pts/game against their schedule in 10 games this season while giving up 18 pts/game. This includes the 2 early season whacks by Melissa and Lovejoy. Those first two games showed the inexperience of this young Argyle team against the top competition of this classification. Wylie has averaged right at 33 pts/game against their 11-game schedule while allowing 24 pts/game....they've played some very close games all season long.

Even though the numbers point toward Argyle winning this game, when Argyle plays Wylie these two teams already know what to expect from the other. This will be a highly physical game in the trenches, for sure. Argyle will try to use its big O-line to wear down that big defensive front of Wylie....it should be a good battle in the trenches. I think Argyle has the advantage offensively....IF they can execute against this Wylie defense that knows how to play Argyle. Turnovers are always a big possibility in this matchup....so hopefully Argyle will take care of the football tonight. And most games the Argyle defense causes a turnover or two....so Wylie better be on guard, too!

Wylie is the home team and will carry the Livestream video of this game tonight on their Bulldogs Sports Network. The season stats for Wylie says they have run the ball for 1382 yds and passed for 1553 yds....if that is an accurate number. It's probably pretty close since all games are listed with the totals for each. That means they run a balanced attack....which is usually tougher to defend. Argyle's season stats show 2100 yds rushing and 2275 yds passing in 10 games, not 11...just to compare. So Argyle has a very balanced offensive attack as well. To be honest....Argyle could really increase their passing numbers but have not really needed to in many games this season. I actually like it when they open up the offense a little more.

OF course you have to realize that when Sr. QB Gailey went down with a season-ending injury halfway thru the season, the Argyle coaching staff wanted to bring along Soph. QB Gasperson a little more slowly in the passing game. Welp....everything has worked out just great and now Argyle is peaking at the playoffs as a complete team. Everybody seems to be playing at a very high level now and are finally in the right position with good team chemistry working together.

There was also a couple of senior starters that did not play for the first 3-4 games because of injuries that are now a huge part of the reason the team has been performing so well each week. LB Devon Owen(Navy) and receiver/RB/Speed Merchant Lane Stewart are back and so is LB Justice Jones. Jones was out for like the first 7 games this year. They are all senior starters from last season. I think overall Argyle is reasonably healthy this week.

Argyle was just too methodical and made it look easy. They had over 500 total yds offensively tonight and it could have been 600, but they played the bench heavy midway thru the 3rd and all of the 4th. I saw some holes in the Argyle defense tonight, but I think they were playing "down" because of the big lead. It always "looks" like the defense is giving up easy plays until you see that it's the backups in there giving up the plays. They will get a very stout and offensive Colleyville Heritage team next week. Time to wake up and smell the coffee. No more mistakes and lackadaisical plays going forward. Time to be perfect.

Coach Rodgers knows there is no sense to pile up scores with a big lead. Get your starters on the sidelines and give your 2nd and 3rd teamers some serious minutes against the starters of your opponent....esp. in these playoff rounds.

Yeah just like the time he left Jon Copeland in the Sanger game after we were beating their brains in and he trashed his knee ending his season and a great playoff run with it. Rodgers is a real football wizard. Itโs nice to see you found somewhere else to talk to yourself instead of pestering the east Texas folk with Argyle talk no one cares about.

Whatever you problem is with Coach Rodgers.....don't bring it to me. Things happen in this game no matter what a coach does or does not do.....but don't vent your venom toward me. I don't deserve it and you have a real problem buddy.
