Burnet is the favorite but I like PLC's chances if they take care of the ball and can defend the pass well in this one.
I think this game will be decided by a TD or less

Burnet is a solid team, 3 losses to good teams only and on the road. A marquee win over Davenport. Handled a Taylor team better than #1 did a week later. PLC on the other hand has some losses, albeit early, to teams that didn’t fare too well. I think the quality of football being played overall in District 13 is higher, so Burnet has the advantage here, and the shorter drive. Burnet 28, Calhoun 14

Does Burnet have a really good front 7 that can stop that 3 yards and a cloud of dust?

Any disciplined squad that can play sound gaps can control it. It takes very special athletes to overcome a good defense from the Slot T variations.

I get all of that but when is the last time Burnet saw the triple option?? I don't think they've played LH in several years now. All I'm saying is that PLC does have a couple of wins that really stand out to me this year. I know LaVernia's starting QB was out when they beat them 21-14 but they also beat a solid Sinton team as well. I do think Burnet is the favorite here. It just wouldn't shock me at all if PLC ended up beating them. They are a very well coached, disciplined team and when they don't turn it over they can beat some people you wouldn't think they'd beat.

But the Triple Option is not a variant of the slot t. Had a long time HC tell me it took him two weeks every season to get his team (Angleton) ready to play Calhoun. Burnet don't have two weeks.

You’re correct, I didn’t get a great look at their formations from the bottom row at Jourdanton last year but I checked out a couple clips and see it’s more of a dual flex back formation with a single tailback. They all call them something different so no idea what they actually call their backs. Still the same principle applies to defenses front sevens staying home and plugging their gaps.

Can Calhoun stop Burnet ? LaVernia 49 Burnet 27 Calhoun 21 LaVernia 14 I'd say this above says they can. lmao As with any game, common opponents don't mean squat. It is all about matchups and we will have to wait and see who's defense matches up to the other's offense better I guess

I wouldn't go by the La Vernia game. Burnet alternated QB's deciding on a starter. Best athlete didn't play, other one played offense only due to heat. This wasn't a must win. Burnet well improved - a good balance run-pass offense. Good defense. They play like their last 4 games their are going to be tough to beat !!! That Davenport win was impressive for sure and the Somerset win was expected. I wasn't too impressed with a 13-7 win over Taylor though but after seeing Boerne struggle with them until late in the game last week it made more sense.

Yeah, Taylor didn’t look too bad and probably would have run the table, or close to it, in some other 4A-1 districts in Region IV. How they didn’t win more games with that speed at receiver and the mobility and arm of that QB is baffling. Speaks more to Burnet’s defense that they held them scoreless until late in the 4th quarter. Matchups are where the games are decided and Burnet has the pass defense but can they shut down the Calhoun ground game? I’m saying yes…

I'm hoping for a PLC win so we can possibly see a rematch from the first round last year.
