Boerne may very well wake up and whip everyone from here on out. But watching that game yesterday reminded me of Calallen's playoff run last year. Like Boerne, we pretty much had our way with everyone in district save one in Alice and non district including beating Cuero in a signature game. I think most of the DCTF and other gurus had us playing in the Semis with a few even having slotted for Jerryworld. Get to the playoffs and open against Beeville where everyone expected us to win going away and we struggled. We didn't really put that game away until the 4th and won 30-6. We beat an unknown in Davenport and had to come back late to win it and then in week three, we jump out early against Somerset and then kind of go through the motions while Somerset chipped away, but ran out of time and Calallen won 31-17. In other words we had at least two games on paper we should've had some JV kids playing the last couple of minutes and didn't happen. I think in the Beeville game we were fortunate to get the second teams some time in the 4th, but not much. I'm not so sure at this point it's a given Boerne is going to run away with this thing. I really think they regroup and do well. 3/4 on balls thrown 20+ to Perez, they could have picked on #20 so much more last night but kept the ball on the ground. Taylor went against convention in a cold, wet windy game and let it fly, and I don’t think Boerne prepared at all for it. That’s on the coaches, and I hope they learn from it and make better adjustments in the future. If we see Calallen it will be in the 3rd round this year, but there are some tough 8-2 teams that play tonight that deserve Boerne’s full attention. T.J. Dement will hopefully be suited up next week, and he is the centerpiece of that offense. Hutson Hendrix is absolutely a huge weapon when it’s time to pound a defense into submission, but any team can load up and stop that at this time of the year. Boerne's defensive problems lie in defending a good passing team. Calallen is NOT that. I don't know the teams in this region to say so I'll ask. What other teams in 4a D1 in R4 can sling the ball and still keep a defense honest with the run game?? That will be the team that can push the Greyhounds or beat them.

I think it’s Lampasas, Davenport and Alice in that order. Davenport seems to have the most prolific offense, but Lampasas has the most mobile QB that can sling it.

I wouldn't overlook Burnet ! They are playing great. Good defense and a balanced run-pass offense.

I wouldn't overlook Burnet ! They are playing great. Good defense and a balanced run-pass offense. I agree but I'd honestly put LaVernia in there to. I'd remove Lampasas altogether as they do not play good defense and Burnet beat them by 3 TDs and Davenport absolutely smashed them. I'd put the teams in R4 like this right now 1a Boerne 1b Davenport 3 Burnet 4a Alice 4b LaVernia I like Alice's D a lot but I'm just not convinced there is enough offense there to win the region. I honestly think there is a significant gap from Boerne & Davenport to the rest at this time.
