Just park the Van under the Camper, DOWN BY THE RIVER! put you a hot tub up on that deck you could be soaking, drinking beer and shooting deer at the same time. And fishing from the deck if you are river front. Man that could be fun!

We disagree on the specifics of the law. I agree with unnecessary spending; they should’ve added a stipulation or something that would’ve given it a separate vote if the seating amount-to-cost ratio exceeds a certain amount. This would allow the no frills, needed improvements a greater chance of passing. I honestly believe that bond votes should be broken out line item by line item to vote on. No hiding crap between the lines. The tax payers have the right to know exactly what they are voting for or against when it comes to their dollars. I stand on the same side with house bills and laws. Too much crap is bunched up and hidden in order to get BS items passed!!! I completely agree. It is time to get rid of the bells and whistles in high school sports. No more over-the-top video/scoreboards, Indoor practice facilities, D1-level weight rooms/locker rooms. You can have a decent pressbox without every coach having the space of a studio apartment or a $5,000 personalized leather chair. I bet you can build a quality 8K bleacher style seat stadium out of steel/aluminum for $10-15 Million. Not every new HS stadium needs to be a concrete/steel inclosed mini Kyle Field. I disagree. Communities should be able to spend money however voters see fit. However, school districts should not be able to hide things from voters. I also think school districts should have to justify costs associated with projects.

I've been in some press boxes that make the ol GP deer blind look like the Taj Majal! There was one that had a giant hole in the floor and they had 2x4 on the floor to walk on to cross it lol... a few were wasp infested... I think a couple were crime scenes lol...

However, schools today are built like fancy banks and other buildings with huge clear stories and mall type areas in them. I'm in the construction business and have been for going on 40 years and see tons and tons of waste on these buildings. Again, as you stated the money should be spent as the tax payers see fit. But I'm of the opinion the average tax payer has no clue when it comes to construction cost and where money can be saved. I also think that architects these days use these public funded projects as a landmark for their firms and I do not like that at all.

Go to the webpages of the who's who in Architects here in Texas and their top projects they get awards in are often school buildings. Followed by City /County/State/Federal projects like City Hall's, Courthouses, Convention centers, Public Safety buildings, etc. Many of these projects make a mockery of the old thinking of wants and needs favoring the wants overwhelmingly. Plus this isn't like the old days of construction where it's true back at the turn of the last century leading up to WWII , they built buildings that were fancy during that era and architectural wonders if you will, but they built them to last for decades and now centuries. Just drive around backroads Texas and look at the courthouses in the town squares and admire that work for an example of this. They are still functional buildings as the day the foundation was poured and the cornerstone placed with renovation being done in regular intervals. Much of our construction these days becomes dated relics a decade later which later fuels the "have to keep up with Jones" mentality at these ISD's and other governmental entities and most of the time it's build new instead of renovate.

Oh man you are exactly right. I'd invite anyone who has never been in the old portions of Jefferson HS in SA to go look at it. Truly amazing craftsmanship and the wood trim in some of the areas is incredible. I believe it was built around 1910 or so. It would cost a FORTUNE today to build another building the way that one was built! This is what most folks don't understand and why I think ISDs get away with what they do. Where I see a lot of common sense building of schools today are in the smaller, one school town districts. They still have the common sense that used to be had by so many more back in the day. SMDH Now you see steel buildings with fancy coverings over them such as expensive rock or brick or even specialty metal skins. Back in the day you had block wall structural buildings with paint on them. There would be absolutely no need for all the HUGE expensive steel if they weren't building the schools like cathedrals! And even structural block can look very nice when you upgrade it to the split-faced version of it...........hell, it looks just like cut rock!

I'm a big fan of the American Pickers show on History Channel when I'm up late at night and can't sleep. I know much of it's production and all of that like 99% of all TV. But they do go to some cool places and the best shows they do are in Detroit where they have a ton of 100 year old plus buildings that have been torn down in the last decade or so. One of those episodes, they went to a "collector" who had warehouses full of wood, doors, accessories, fixtures, etc. that he and his company would strip from these buildings before the wrecking ball finished the job. And even after that, he would salvage brick and other materials before the rest was loaded and sent to the landfill. He'd get top dollar for all that stuff and he certainly got his way with the Picker guys in that episodes. Try doing the same from a building built in the 60's to 90's.... Lmao you couldn't give some of that stuff away and you certainly pay for it to get hauled away.

Down goes Prosper’s stadium. But on the flip side, it looks like Lake Travis’s more reasonable update to Cavalier Stadium to 12,000 spectators and a new press box dazzled LTISD voters with a decisive “YES” (with a new 8,000 capacity stadium for its new HS).

Someone has to be the adult and realize you don't need to have show off HS football stadiums for every school in your district. Also at some point, those $100 million dollar stadiums and facilities are going to need expensive maintenance.
