Anna is the biggest 4A school in the state with a projected enrollment of 1500-1600 students.
Anna has been very poor in football nearly forever. Last year they went 13-1, losing to eventual state champion China Spring in the regional finals. If there was ever a year to win a championship this is the one.
#8 Anna beat #5 Decatur 37-30 in Week 1, so the team is off to another good start.

Not to be a sceptic but as someone that's vocal about hating coaches recruiting at the high school level I always am for situations like this. This program rarely had a winning season in the last 40 years then they get this new coach and BOOM 7-3, 13-1 and 15-1 state champions in his first 3 seasons. Either he's the greatest coach of all time or something shady happened.

Anna Coyotes 2021 - 15 returning starters, 31 returning lettermen went 7-3 2022 - 17 returning starters, 45 returning lettermen went 13-1 2023 - 14 returning starters, 36 returning lettermen went 15-1 state champions. I'm pretty sure this is the main reason they succeeded.

Their district foes were teams like Argyle, Melissa and Paris. So that probably had something to do with there records. But I think this coach came in and the players bought in to what he was wanting to do and it got them a state championship.

Nothing shady happened. This has just been a perfect storm of growth (Anna is the biggest 4A school in the state), superb coaching, and opportunity. If anyone is curios why the logo has a "U" with a coyote instead of an "A", well the coach brought that in and calls it "Coyote U" as in university. He was somehow able to get community buy in with that, and combined with the talent that has flocked to the area, was able to have 2 very successful seasons capped off with a state championship.
Anna has historically sucked pretty bad, and suffered major growing pains moving to 3A in 2008 and 4A D1 a few years ago. Being placed in some 5-team districts, Anna was able to get into the playoffs a bit within the past decade, but still struggled until the new coach and continued growth were really able to make a difference. Yes, there were some talented move ins from bigger schools in the area, but that happens when families want their kids to play rather than ride the bench somewhere else.
Melissa is somewhat of an offshoot of Anna, as its students attended Anna HS until 2004. Anna and Melissa have played all but 4 seasons since 2006, with Anna only winning in 2010 (Anna's best 4 opportunities to win, coincidently, occurred in the 4 seasons they didn't play - 2014/15/22/23). Anna had initially grown faster until the past few years when the tides changed. Melissa's houses have been a bit more expensive, and the families that really invested in athletics typically moved there. Anna has had cheaper homes, lots of rent houses, and now has a few apartment complexes too. It is a bit more diverse than Melissa - very diverse now, actually.
I still believe that Melissa has the better overall athletic program, but Anna is now much better off than it was before. The upcoming realignment with Anna, Melissa, and Lovejoy possibly all aligned together will be very interesting. Anna's defense has been very good, and the sophomore QB is hard to contain, but I am not sure if it will be enough in 5A. I am excited to see how Denison matches up with them.

Gotta have buy-in to compliment it. This coach accomplished that.

They struggled to have winning seasons the last 40 years. Maybe winning a 4a D1 title with nearly 200 kids above the new cutoff #? Anna is growing by leaps and bounds and will continue to. Yes, the new coaching has certainly got a lot to do with it as they never been past round 2 until last year. But you cannot look past the growth there either. Anna has gone from 17,407 in 2020 to well over 27k this year. That is nearly 60% growth in just 3 short years! And since 2010 Anna has grown by nearly 250%
