I was being positive because I had talked to one of their coaches and became a believer and let that emotion get in the way of my initial Ray program criticisms which is that they need a new HC. That put together with the 18 starters they were returning made it easy to say they were going to be good this season. So while I may have been wrong I at least put legit thought into my picks unlike most of you that just assume the same teams are going to be bad every season. They still might be. District hasn’t started yet. Maybe TM is pretty good? Alice gets to play them… I’ll be watching. TM is not good. Moody and Ray are bad! TM plays an even worse King team, and a bad West Oso. LaFeria has improved, Alice and Cal will spank them. Zapata has definitely improved as well. So 2 spots for 3 teams. It will come down to that final week of Zapata vs TM I believe. TM improved over week 1, as I stated in the other thread they played at the level of JV A last night. Legit teams will beat them handily. If they were playing Miller, Miller pulls 70 like RF. Vets takes them by 30. Anyone in the PLC district except RF beats them as well. They will win these sorry team games, but still end with 4 or 5 losses on the season, depending on if they get in the playoffs.

I do want to also express that TM needs to play these weak teams to learn how to win. They don't need a schedule full of Millers, Vets, Cals, Alices, GPs, or FBs. They need to play the Kings, Ray's, Robstowns, Moodys, and West Osos of the football world.
Once they can consistently win those games by 30 or more, then move to more difficult teams like Carroll, OG, Beeville, and maybe Ingleside. Build the mentality of winning, get those boys believing they are able to win. Then eventually they will be able to win playoff games, compete with Miller, Vets, Alice, and Cal.
Until then though, they can be a not good team beating even worse teams and learning to win..

I don't think they're bad they brought back 18 starters. They looked good in the Alice scrimmage.

TM looks improved over last year, but it’s still early. Their RB is legit, and he’s just a sophomore. Their defense flies to the ball, but they’ve gone against weak offenses. Still, it’s pretty impressive to nearly shut out two teams in back to back weeks. I would be a little surprised if they don’t finish 3rd in district. No, TM will not challenge Calallen or Alice yet. They’re not there. But everything isn’t black and white. You don’t have to be the best to be improved and see the positive in things. The expectations at TM are not what they are at Cal or Alice.

You don’t have to be the best to be improved and see the positive in things. The expectations at TM are not what they are at Cal or Alice. I agree they are improved over last year as they are beating crappy teams like they should. Last year they were equal to a Freshman B/JV B team all season. This year they looked like a JV B vs Moody, and Moody looked like a C or D freshman or junior high team. Vs Ray they improved to JV A looking vs a JV B team in Ray. You are correct that improvement is improvement. They still are in need of a better coach and staff. The unsportsmanlike penalties and the dirty play is something that this staff has been allowing. As for expectations, the community should expect more. Just because it's TM, shouldn't let them off the hook. Expectations should be getting those kids hitting the weights and getting stronger and faster. Expectations should be having kids with muscle tone and mental toughness. Expectations should be that talking back, throwing fits, fighting, cheap shots, smack talk, and dirty play not be a part of every stinking game. As a proud Warrior, I want to see them win, but I would be fine if they lost every game but they cleaned up the reputation by not having all those other issues I just mentioned. I would rather lose with honor, than win with cheap shots and poor character. Now also as a proud Warrior, if those kids hit the weight room more and had the muscle tone and strength that they are definitely capable of achieving, they'd be a very dangerous team! That back would be even faster, even stronger, and he'd be headed to college in D2 or D3 at least. The QB would have a lethal arm to throw further down field. His receivers would be fast as all get out and they'd be true down field threats. I know many of the parents of these boys, and I tell them the same things to their faces. As I stated before, TM needs to play these crappy teams for now to learn to win. They need to learn to win the right way though. For instance, I may have the opinion that Vets has had an easy road to win games, but in every game I have seen them play win or lose they have class and honor. They don't play dirty, they don't cheat, they don't cheap shot kids, they don't turn to picking fights. I can respect that coach and that program for doing it the right way. The TM coach is not doing that, so he is not respectable and his staff is not respectable, and I know many of those guys personally. I have expressed to them that I don't respect the way they do things for allowing that nonsense.

I’ve attended both games, and they aren’t a dirty team. They have, however, been a very mistake-prone team and that will have to be worked on. I’m also not sold on this HC, but I think he made a very solid hire for DC in the off-season. It would be very unrealistic to expect this TM to have Calallen results. I like to live in reality, not some fantasyland. That’s just me.

I too live in reality, and I don't think they are playing at a Varsity level. I will take your word on the improvement over the dirty play since you have been in person, on video to me it looks as though they are still playing dirty. I'm also glad you have the doubts about this HC. I do see better defensive schemes this year, so I'll also take your word on that DC being a good hire.

I myself have not seen them play just looking at stats and articles I read so it will play itself out as the season goes.

The old admin yes... they did a coaching legend dirty and removed his name from the gym and from talking to folks there that led to his passing as well. I will not forgive them of that travesty. As for the community and the kids in general, not at all. I still bleed maroon and gold all these years from being there. I did come back as a student coach and a paid coach, and hated seeing the apathy and acceptance of losing they had there. I left there on good terms. As for being hard on them, nearly 30 years of the same sad results, really irks me. They have the ability to be better, and finally have a superintendent that wants to make them better in all realms. So yes I am hard on them. If they improve to their ability, it only makes that area's football better. When Iron sharpens Iron, all teams get better.

Last year they lost to a valley team that they should have destroyed that literally looked like a JV team all season. Moody would lose to most JV teams badly. I want them to look even better vs King, so that they can look back and see progression and also, so that if they score 40-60 vs them, they can say they are getting closer to a much better program they play in district.

Most of the kids are out there busting their butts off, have you ever considered supportive comments instead of throwing around insults like “you look like a freshmen B team”. Just a thought.
