For a lot of rivalry games the doesn't have to be anything riding on the outcome of the game. The intense hate of each other is enough. But it is more fun when there is something to play for. I agree. But sometimes when one team begins to put a long winning streak over another and becomes mediocre, the intensity can kind of ware off. Calallen and GP used to have a very loud rivalry in the 90s going into the 2000’s, but that began to lose some luster when Calallen started winning many of the games and by size able margins too. I know when my kids were in school, they started seeing Flour Bluff more as rival because the games had some significance to them and they were often very physical and well attended games. I 100% agree with this. If there starts to be a one-sided W/L column and those games become non competitive, some of the fire can leave in a hurry. This said, I think the Cal/GP rivalry is still pretty dang strong and the dislike is definitely not gone by any means. lmao

Like the battle of the little brown jug, that has been in the Cal trophy case since 1985. The only people who care about it anymore are the TM community that think it's an even matchup and that Cal is paying the refs to make it one sided EVERY STINKING YEAR!!! Drives me crazy as a TM alumni that they think it's the State Championship or something... It hasn't been a rivalry since '84 although the 90s had some great games and Talbert always made it interesting 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The funniest moment I ever witnessed was a game we were winning by 30 at halftime at GP and they had a raffle in the 4th qtr and couldn’t give away the prize because everybody who bought numbers had left. Lol

Dead- Refugio vs. Sinton Taft vs. Sinton
Alive- Rockport-Fulton vs. Sinton Beeville vs. Sinton
Really miss Sinton and Refugio playing every year. First game of the year and it was always a packed stadium. Both teams had their blow-out wins, but most of the games were close hard hitting games. Refugio's shrinking enrollment as well as Taft's put an end to 2 very long lasting rivalries that went back before WWII.

Lol Man he had some wild theories for sure!!!! I've been to some games like that, it is pretty funny when you're on the side winning lol... one of the 6 man schools I was at, we had a raffle and homecoming at the same time... needless to say we were really bad and the game was over at halftime... they were begging people to stay for the halftime activities... basically everyone left except the kids involved... another year under a new regime we were really good, and they planned a raffle for homecoming again, needless to say we were up 44 with a minute to go and we had the ball on the 5. We were told by the admin to prolong the game, so we took a knee to kill the clock and let half time happen. We scored on the kickoff for the 2nd half and the game was over.... but hey we let them have halftime lol...another time we were the visiting team, and they were ruffling a blanket and a bunch of other stuff..... the announcer kept begging people to buy raffle tickets. 1 lady bought tickets, and so she won everything 🤣🤣🤣🤣... the announcer was quite sarcastic too... "since Margaret was the only person to buy a ticket, Margaret come get this crap, you win everything. Thanks again for supporting the kids, unlike the rest of you folks. Have a great night and I hope you all are happy with yourselves." We were laughing in the room next to him.

Had some hard hitting slobber knockers. Heck I remember in the early 80s pre Danaher, Hebbronville and Calallen had some exciting games too.

They played a couple games in the mid 90's when Wes Danaher was RB. Needless to say those 2 games were blowouts. Calallen was a beast back in those years

I don't remember much of the 70s since I was born in 75. It's crazy that both Sinton and Calallen are back to being in the same classification for all other sports, but 500 kids difference or so.... I would have thought Calallen would be pushing numbers like FB by now. If I was still a resident of CC, you couldn't pay me enough to live in the ccisd district. I can't believe there hasn't been a mass exodus to London, Calallen, GP, and FB from places like Corpus proper, Robstown, Kingsville, and Mathis.

Dead Floresville vs Pleasanton, They did play this past season but it was the first time in at least a decade. I don't think the current players understand how heated the rivalry was from the 90s to around 2005.
Kerrville vs Fredericksburg. Another great rivalry lost to growth. They still play but not in district games, so maybe it's more of a back burner rival.

I loved watching that game when I had to scout one of those two teams... the 2001 game had some very heated moments in it...
