I looked him up He is a lifetime 70 wins 80 losses coach at Gatesville and Ponder combined. His best season was 13-1 at Gatesville in 2012 and that was his only double digit wins year as a HC.
So, the numbers are not overwhelming by any means but the wins/losses don't always tell the full story.

But I can't recall Gatesville ever being very good except for a season here or there.

Since then, they are 117-121 overall and only making the playoffs 10 or 23 seasons and going 6-10 when it counts in those years.

I mentored kids that played for him at Gatesville. They didn't have too many positive things to say about him as a coach. That 2012 team was stacked with studs that had moved in from Temple, Belton, Killeen, Cove and the other surrounding areas. It will be curious to see what his team's discipline level will be on and off the field... that was an issue in Gatesville. Some of those same studs ended up at Jonesboro and Evant the following year because they got kicked out of Gatesville for discipline issues that were never addressed by his staff. I hope as a coach that has changed and I wish him luck though.
