I didn't even realize Jefferson wasn't there anymore but apparently he isn't because Kingsville is supposed to announce the new head coach today officially.

Didn't they almost reassign him at the start of the school year because of a parent complaint? That job has to be one of the toughest jobs in the Texas outside some of the inner city schools. Not because they have discipline issues and the such. The community support is awful.

I saw this on a tweet about a couple weeks back, I was like WOW they got rid of Jefferson after a year as head coach, I know his time there was bad … I don’t mean bad but like seriously bad! Communication problems in games like substituting, wasting timeouts & stuff. If I remember that last game at Alice they had only 27 players suited & at the same bill later in the game the QB & the coach had that run in.

I looked at their school board agenda and it just notes this was for the AD appointment. Not AD/Head Football Coach.

Where is Ruben Garcia from? I think he was Evans' 1st OC at Miller then went to be the HC at Falfurrias the last 3 years. Before that I'm not sure.

I read he was at Crosby for three seasons as an Assistant before coming down this way. It will be interesting to see what he does at Kingsville. If he can turn it around and change the culture down there, then he will definitely be looked at for bigger things down the road. The task is huge with one big thing he has to address is losing athletes to Bishop and Santa Gertrudis. Although some of those students are going to those schools because of academics as well which is not in his lane exclusively. It's not just the football program that is hurting.

I don't even think they had sub-varsity for the later part of the season. The whole district needs a boost. I was commenting to my daughter who is in band back when we played Kingsville that they have long been bad in football with a few seasons here and there where they had a decent to good team. But the one constant they had was great band program and lots of kids participating in it. This year their band looked like a small Class 3A-sized band, and it was reflected in the quality of their performance at the band competitions. I mean their trailer had all the years they went to state listed on it and gone are any years from the past ten or so.

I mean their trailer had all the years they went to state listed on it and gone are any years from the past ten or so. Yeah the last time I was down in Kingsville, I barely recognized it. The place is pretty much a ghost town of what it once was. As for the football program itself, Whit was their last truly good coach. They had some good assistant coaches that went elsewhere or dropped football completely because of the level of head coach has been a joke. They used to have some elite soccer teams both boys and girls, but even those are not even close to what they were. When I was there as the boys soccer coach, I would laugh at our girls coach because when we had home games scheduled he would tell the field crew not to mow so the grass would be longer to slow down teams like GP and Flour Bluff. It worked too lol, his teams rarely lost at home. I didn't mind because it slowed down the guys teams too lol... the old Mopac stadium though needed to be condemned at that point though, I'm sure it's still being used and no changes made to it either...
