There was a time when most coastal bend fans got behind the teams that were still playing late in the playoffs. Seems to be more of Cal ain’t good blah blah blah. You can slice and dice it however you want but Cal is winning the same way they have for years, solid defense and just enough offense to getter done. That defense ain’t going nowhere next weekend and Boerne has their hands full just as much as Cal does. That’s never been the case here in Boerne. Boerne Champion hates Boerne regardless of what anyone tells you. Go Cal Wow I didn’t know that?

I didn’t discount the GP games. I actually just forgot about them. So you’re picking Boerne unless Calallen wins? Lol. From this point on, anything less than a solid game will result in a loss for Calallen. All the wiggle room for less intense is over. I didn't studder. I'm picking Boerne to win, because I think they are the better team. I hope I'm wrong. IOW my head says Boerne but my heart wants Calallen to win. Agreed! What I've seen it's Boerne that is the better team.

Too much sputter in the offense. Calallen will need a great gameplan and execute near perfectly to win this. Boerne looks a lot more consistent and played better comp. Calallen has pulled off these games before, so it’s possible they come out with a win.

It will be interesting to see how long they can keep that from happening in the future if Boerne High gets a big growth spurt for which I think a lot of their attendance zone is now growing out there on Hwy 46 going towards Bulverde.

Think before you write.

Calallen has pulled off these games before, so it’s possible they come out with a win. With all due respect, they have not played MUCH better competition. Better, but not by much and It’s debatable. . They didn’t play a killer non district schedule and certainly the playoff teams have been comparable to who we’ve played. Davenport was hands down better than any team they faced in the first three rounds. Somerset was probably the second best team they faced all year and we have comparable scores in our matchups. Their non district was two teams we faced in GP and FB. Salado who was 3-7, but yea they nearly knocked off Cuero in the first round and Gobblers are cruising now. Antonian is a respectable Private school they beat. But Fredericksburg went back to being mediocre this year and San Antonio Memorial And SA Kennedy were LaFeria/Zapata/Kingsville bad and Uvalde might have been TM bad. If Calallen had beat the bulk of our district schedule by scores like 42-14 or 35-7, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. People got damn spoiled by these 60-0 scores and thinking they’d carry over to the playoffs.

I believe calallen will win the game, Cal can match them athlete per athlete...it's going to be a game of strength vs strength...Cal has been here in that position before..Cal will do enough to get the win and advance...

I’ll take Calallen. I don’t see enough of a difference in schedules/scores to have Boerne as the favorite here. I’ll look at some stats this week to see if I change my mind… but at this point I think Calallen wins. No! Go get a room with Boerne…. Please! Lol!

You make great points and I stopped a minute to do a personal examination to see if I fit into the mold of those in your last paragraph. I came to the understanding that score differentials don’t mean nearly as much to me as physical and mental effort do. I prefer a hard-fought, crisp, close win over a sloppy blowout any time. I’m proud of these boys and staff and the year they’ve had, but like I’ve said before, in no way satisfied. When you get satisfied with less than a championship, then you will always get less than a championship.

So far it hasn’t been a big price. As we all know we are getting to the part of the season where they have to be cleaned up. I bet we are in for a classic.

Those stupid 5 yard penalties killed a few scoring drives worse than a holding. They took us to easily convertible 3rd and 2 to 3rd and 7 and then a few were compounded further by a penalty on third down which was a hold or another procedure penalty. I think we had two situations like that yesterday and once or twice against Davenport during what were nickel and dime type drives that stalled because of it.

That’s never been the case here in Boerne. Boerne Champion hates Boerne regardless of what anyone tells you. Go Cal That’s weird since they’ve forever since Champion was built to keep each school from playing each other in anything. Correct? It will be interesting to see how long they can keep that from happening in the future if Boerne High gets a big growth spurt for which I think a lot of their attendance zone is now growing out there on Hwy 46 going towards Bulverde. Here’s the skinny. The built Champion due to the obvious growth. And yes initially they did not want the schools playing each other above the middle school level. Champion was 5A and Boerne 4A. Champion had some success 2014-2015 and then 2019. Just before 2019, BISD with help from the AD who was first the Boerne HS basketball coach, decided to allow school choice for incoming 9th grade regardless of where you lived. That changed everything over the last 3-4 years. I have witnessed Boerne HS coaches going to the middle schools and saying “champion is so big and good, you’ll increase your chances of playing if you come to Boerne”. And that’s what’s happened. 1/2 of Boerne’s starting 22 is zoned to Champion HS. As for enrollment, Champion offers classes Boerne HS doesn’t. So every other day of the week, they bud kids to Champion for classes. Those kids are counted as Champion enrollment. This is why Champion numbers keep going up (5A D2 to 5A D1) and Boerne stays just under at 4A. It’s getting really out of hand. It’s some of the reason coaches are leaving Chamoion for other districts. I mean come on…Boerne has won state or been at least 4 rounds deep in Boys Soccer, Girls Basketball, Tennis, baseball, football, Boys Basketball all in the last 3 years. They’re really a 5A team
