That is a great game he had against Boerne but unfortunately the Bulldogs still lost that game by 3 TDs and only scored 14 total points. Calallen's defense is as good, probably better than Boerne's D and I don't think they are going to make much money on the ground this week against that defense. The Bulldogs got inside the 25 of Boerne about 5 times but couldn't convert. Some of that being them getting adjusted to being without their best player (Alcorta) They seem to have adjusted a lot better since that game. Injuries are just another thing to deal with. A lot of people tend to forget that Calallen lost RB1 in game four also. Next man up!

ive heard some talk about how somerset could upset calallen.. i really dont think somerset will score more then 14 just because of calallens defense.. once calallen defensive coordinator gets a hold of what they r trying to do i fee they will shut them down .. if davenport couldnt score anymore then 14 i dont see somerset doing either. u cant pick againts the big dog untill prove u can take the big dog down . calallen is calallen . somerset hasnt faced a defense like calallen Yup 100% agree!

Somerset scored 14 points on Boerne. Uh We covered that on page 1 It's incredible to see Somerset pounding away without their best player. Somerset lost RB 1 Jacob Alcorta against Fredericksburg weeks ago. Josiah Lugo has filled in nicely. Lugo put up 170 on th3 ground in a loss to Boerne. This match up was very close to happening last season as Somerset lost in the final seconds to Fredericksburg in round 1. That is a great game he had against Boerne but unfortunately the Bulldogs still lost that game by 3 TDs and only scored 14 total points.Calallen's defense is as good, probably better than Boerne's D and I don't think they are going to make much money on the ground this week against that defense.

I get why they are high on Somerset. They got some good size, speed at RB and other positions, a coach with some great pedigree and he has those kids and the community pumped. This certainly won't be the Somerset teams we pretty much dominated in the two years we shared a district with them and that playoff game we had up there in 2014. Different animal for sure. Somerset played in somewhat stronger district , but not by much as they had two horrible teams (Memorial and Kennedy) , one that has always struggled (Uvalde) and a Fredericksburg that was a shadow of the team from last year. Like our district where it was Alice and Cal, it was pretty much Somerset and Boerne in theirs. Cal is going to have to go into Beeville and play their game which means the defense is going to be a huge part of how this goes down.

Friday at 3 p.m. Somerset (10-2) vs. Calallen (12-0) at Veterans Memorial Stadium, Beeville (Wildcats are 12-0 for the first time since 2017) Weather looks DRY and game time temp around 65 with a sunny sky. Let's hope this forecast verifies. Two consecutive Friday's of sitting in the cold, rain, and wind was for the birds. And that weather forecast from Monday is trash now. Looks like highs in the Upper 50's and a stiff north wind and rain ending before noon. Supposed to clear out to get some sun later in the afternoon just before it sets around the 4th qtr.

I agree with what you are saying but along with the Cat's defense setting the tone I think it is pretty important that the offense comes out and takes it to them. If they don't, the longer they let Somerset hang around the more they will believe. Get them down early and then we will see what they are truly made of.

I’m having a tough time with this for the past several days. I know Calallen has the capability of winning the game but the past couple of weeks they’ve been nonchalant as of late offensively. Somerset does have size & talented which Detmer has done a solid job since taking over for his late dad. I’d say it’ll be another close game tho

For not being in the T very much at all this year and staying in it for 3/4 of the game last week I thought Cal moved the ball effectively but penalties killed good drives. But yes Somerset is a legit good squad this year and them Cats will need to play well, I think we see a good solid performance from Cal this week.

I get that, but I grow tired of some of the Calallen rhetoric from certain posters here. A good example is the Alice game. You had poster(s) say that the team had that game circled at the beginning of the year and even though Calallen won, some of those same posters were making excuses. Seriously man if you have the game circled, you are what you are, but they still make excuses in victory. There's been other teams that played in weak districts and gone on to do well in the playoffs. At this point with 12 games in, barring major injuries, you are who you are. Just win and if you don’t, all the excuses are just that. Excuses. Not singling you out, but there are a few Calallen posters who do. Having said that, I think Calallen rolls Somerset 35-7.
