It's incredible to see Somerset pounding away without their best player. Somerset lost RB 1 Jacob Alcorta against Fredericksburg weeks ago. Josiah Lugo has filled in nicely. Lugo put up 170 on th3 ground in a loss to Boerne.
This match up was very close to happening last season as Somerset lost in the final seconds to Fredericksburg in round 1.

What happened to the Somerset Homer in here? Bulldog I think was his name. I figured we see him again

Somerset looks pretty strong this year. I know Cal can't keep playing like they have and win Best team they've had in a while no doubt. That said, they are not good enough to beat Calallen and I see a final somewhere along the lines of the Boerne game they had at about 35-14 or so.

That is a great game he had against Boerne but unfortunately the Bulldogs still lost that game by 3 TDs and only scored 14 total points. Calallen's defense is as good, probably better than Boerne's D and I don't think they are going to make much money on the ground this week against that defense.

Friday at 3 p.m. Somerset (10-2) vs. Calallen (12-0) at Veterans Memorial Stadium, Beeville (Wildcats are 12-0 for the first time since 2017) Weather looks DRY and game time temp around 65 with a sunny sky. Let's hope this forecast verifies. Two consecutive Friday's of sitting in the cold, rain, and wind was for the birds.

One thing that caught my eye is they are not slugging the ball around which is very uncommon for a Detmer family coached team. Of course we know his Dad pioneered the run and shoot style/spread offense down in this part of the state and all the brothers who played QB under him have the QB hardware from their college days. And Detemer's grandsons who all played under Sonny did well too along with several non related kids who learned the system too. I think Koy pretty much did the same at his stint at Mission? I can't find any season stats to confirm this, but judging by their scores they are not big blowouts like you would expect from a pass team. They only four that standout are Highlands 42-14, SA Kennedy 53-0, Uvalde 48-22 and SA Memorial 70-0. The rest were relatively low scoring or the margin of victory wasn't more than a few TD's.

The Bulldogs got inside the 25 of Boerne about 5 times but couldn't convert. Some of that being them getting adjusted to being without their best player (Alcorta) They seem to have adjusted a lot better since that game.

I feel like this is the "woke up a sleeping giant" game after the scare last week for Calallen. Davenport played well, but that 2nd half was when Calallen woke up. Now that they are awake, I think we see a Cuero/FB level of play out of them. That district schedule hurt them and the intensity they had going... Somerset has the potential to make this interesting and even win, but I think Calallen wins.

Yeah, that stinks that they lost him but it is next man up this time of year. I just think the Calallen defense is every bit as good or even better than the Boerne defense and holding Davenport to 14 shows it. I'm curious as to whether or not Somerset had Alcorta kid for the Antonian game because if so, they still lost that game by 3 scores and Boerne beat Antonian by a couple scores. So, even with a healthy Acorta I don't think Somerset beats Boerne if they played multiple times. Somerset will have to play out of their minds good and Calallen not so much for the Bulldogs to beat them. I see a 3 score win coming for Calallen as I expect them to be woke up after last weeks struggles for 3 quarters.

Last year Somerset had a big lineman (6β8β, 350), I believe he was a junior. He is a very accurate kicker with long range. He kicked a 50 yd and a 47 yarder against Cuero. Heβs a secret weapon for the Bulldogs.

ive heard some talk about how somerset could upset calallen.. i really dont think somerset will score more then 14 just because of calallens defense.. once calallen defensive coordinator gets a hold of what they r trying to do i fee they will shut them down .. if davenport couldnt score anymore then 14 i dont see somerset doing either. u cant pick againts the big dog untill prove u can take the big dog down . calallen is calallen . somerset hasnt faced a defense like calallen
