Looks like the coach at Lamesa is on his first HC gig there for the last 3 years. I listened to a couple of interviews with him and I agree.....I like that dude! I was looking up Lamesa football record the last 3 seasons 2022- 2-8 2021- 4-6 2020- 3-7 umm … that’s not really impressive … It's impressive if you look at their entire history lol. I don't think they've had a winning season since 2001. Took them to the playoffs for the first time in 18 years.

I can confirm that Joe Richard (Castellano) is one of the applicants. I know him well and he is well aware of the turmoil in Alice, and he has Alice ties. I don’t see Coach Hood (Lamesa) as a good fit for aAlice for many reasons, and he doesn’t seem like one that will bow down to the board, but he’s different and will go against the grain. Now is that something the board would like, probably not. Especially with the usual characters getting re-elected over and over. A coach from Clear Lake is another applicant, I know of about 5-6 others that may not want their name on here but I’m curious as to what direction the board will take. I know of two board members that have personally reached out to certain coaches that they feel should apply. Word gets out around here, people at central office talk. Yoy can’t keep quiet about this stuff. I don’t like it because again, they’d be pulling the strings, it would be their guy you know. It’s micromanagement 24/7 with these people. I feel like they’ll come outta nowhere with the new guy. Back when Evans was hired, he wasn’t even a front runner. There was about 5-6 that they had narrowed it down to. They got a middle guy close to the board to reach out to him and meet up with him to talk about the situation and different scenarios if they hired him. And what do you know, a few days after this meeting he was hired. Nobody expected it. From what I’m being told and hearing in my circles, they are back to pushing for a guy from within, but there’s resistance. We are talking about the guys making decisions for this already troubled school district. I wouldn’t doubt that TEA steps in soon with some of the nonsense going on and with all that has been reported. So I reallly don’t know what to think about how they’ll go about this process. It’s a crazy situation. Help me here on this a little bit. The problem has been the terrible leadership there in Alice by the upper brass but because he will go against the grain he won't be a good fit? So you are saying you want a coach that will bow down to the BS that has been happening there for years again and do as he's told? I'm truly not understanding your comment Not at all, let me clarify. We do need a coach that will not bow down and go against the grain. All for it, we need that. Will that ruffle some feathers, yes. And the powers that be will not like it and they’ll make his life a living hell, just like they did with Atwood over the last 3 years, and they’ll continue to micromanage and it’s back to square one. As long as 4-5 of those trustees are in office, three in particular, Alice will never move forward and never get back to that winning tradition. Once those trustees are out, we’ll be back in track, and an AD/HC that will go against the grain, will get us back to bring a winning program. Mark my words they’re gonna go the same route when naming a new superintendent. Someone that will bend over for them and be their puppet. That’s sadly just how it is in Alice.

It’s a crazy situation. I didn't have a problem with them going after Evans even though he wasn't a finalist because the finalists that year didn't really pop out. I think they did the right thing for that time even though he ended up leaving. When Atwood got the job what I had heard was he too was not only not a finalist but he didn't even apply that time. They reached out to him and asked him to apply. I think he did apply that year Evans got it but not the year he got it. They had to ask him to apply because the applicant pool was so weak. Not sure how accurate that is but that's what I had heard. Not entirely accurate, but it doesn’t matter now with both of them out of the picture now haha During an early breakfast meeting, it was brought up that Evans was the Miller coach that was a front runner for the Manvel job but obviously he found out yesterday that he did not get it. The source is reliable in my opinion because he’s not one to say much but when he does it’s usually because he’s in the know and pretty accurate about things 99.9% of the time. His great nephew is on staff at Manvel and according to him, the grapevine had Evans as one of the finalists. Again, don’t know how true that is, but it was brought up.

I'm truly not understanding your comment I think it's irrelevant because a coach like that obviously wouldn't be hired by people looking for a puppet unless the board changes it's approach. There's some good coaches applying. People shouldn't be disappointed in the applicants they should be worried about the board not doing the right thing. Yup Agreed

So they gave it to the Crosby coach who was a CC Vets assistant a few years ago? Where do you get your info from because as far as I know Manvel hasn't announced or even had the final interviews.

I think you were better off with Coach Atwood than if you had Coach Evans. Coach Atwood did more with less and Coach Evans did less with more. It wouldn’t had matter either way

I think you were better off with Coach Atwood than if you had Coach Evans. Coach Atwood did more with less and Coach Evans did less with more. Wrong. Evans handed over a senior heavy team to Atwood in 2017. I've repeatedly said that had Evans stayed in Alice 1 more season that 2017 team would have not lost until round 5 of the playoffs and Alice wouldn't have had 3 losing seasons in 6 years. Bingo!
