There are a couple of ways to look at this.
One, you are a player in your rival's stadium you just lost and thousands of rabid fans are rushing the field and coming up to you. You have no clue what their intentions are so you have a right to defend yourself to some degree. Two, as the away player just try and exit as quickly as possible and let security know if there is trouble if that is even possible. Three, If you are a fan rushing the field don't go up to players and taunt them. 99.9% of the time they are bigger, and stronger, than you and are coming off an extremely emotional loss, and "IT" can happen.
Now the video it looks like the player did more of a get out of my face light push away and not a violent full-on slap or punch. Im Not condoning the actions but it's not as bad as people are making it out to be.
Sadly these actions will continue and possibly get worse as the field rushing continues.

There was another video showing him pushing a different fan on the way out. The colleges need to get on a grip on this or it's going to happen. Especially with the homestretch about to start when more of the traditional rivalry games are held and conference championships on the line.

Another week and another field rush. This time LSU over #7 Ole Miss. Swamp Tigers were fined $250K by the SEC as it was their third offense of field/court storming. The conference imposes financial penalties for violations across all sports, a policy that started in 2004. The first offense incurs a $50,000 fine. After the third offense, any subsequent penalties come with a $250,000 fine. www.nola.com/sports/lsu/article_d01f734a-5306-11ed-81b6-2b817701dcde.htmlClemson also stormed the field after avoiding getting upset by Syracuse. Clemson is 9-2 all time vs the Orangeman.

My fandom has no bearing with the teams involved. I just read a few different stories about the incident. I think the tech fan purposely hit the longhorn player and he should be charged with assault and trespassing. At minimum he's banned from all tech sporting events. A&M also had an ugly event when they rushed the field vs LSU. An Aggie staffer punched a fan or someone. It's still unacceptable. Also it's difficult to arrest/fine hundreds of not thousands of fans In such event. A decent lawyer will get those charges dropped. The other point is it's becoming to common and the field storming has lost its luster. Your damn right he should be charged! And this rushing the field BS needs to stop altogether. Especially in a game like this. It wasn't like Tech just beat the consensus #1 team in the nation and were 40 point underdogs. Ridiculousness

And to date that is $500K LSU will have to pay to SEC for field rushes. LSU has money, but they are hardly drowning in it like Bama, Texas, A&M, etc.

Duke basketball player was injured in a court storming by Wake Forest fans. So the debate continues on how to ban count rushing or at least control them.
Time to just put up the hockey rink barrier wall for basketball . Also home team forfeits the game if the court or field is rushed.
