Clem The issue is your condemning Coach Jason Herring running up the score on a weak team. His answer when he got all the flack was he was trying to get his team ready for the playoffs and he was hired to win playoff games. Finding a way to win was his goal. Whether you agree or not is your problem. Coach Herring got a lot of flack and found a higher classification team to play and Refugio got beat. I notice you haven’t said anything about Coach Rhoades running up the score on a weak team. I haven’t seen calcatgirl take up my comment on Calallen running up the score on Coach Loomis at GP . I think I remember it involved a certain running back.

I don't remember hating on either one. I have said many times Coach George Harris was a nice guy. I don't remember saying I hate Coach Rhoades. I think both have been a disaster for GP. Matt Anastacio didn’t exactly light it up for GP either. Just saying.

There is a FB poster on here that has changed his handle and we used to PM each other and he helped me stay down to earth and he was correct that GP just does not have the horses and does not have the horses coming up. He was really a nice guy. Coach Anastacio went through the conversion from Wing-T of Coach Harris to the 2 back run first spread version offense. He had Coach Harris holdover coaches. He was last coach to beat Calallen in 2014. He had a good running back and a team that was light in the britches. Coach Rhoades did not have to make that conversion. DR. Paul Clore was the bigger disaster and the new super is fixing the education problem he created. Coach Megan Marie Lorberau is the new GP 7th grade coach and she graduated Sinton HS and taught and coached at Alice last year. GP still replacing Coaches

Concentrate on the “Prep” school sports like soccer, and start water polo, lacrosse and field hockey. Maybe even Gymnastics

REFUGIO, Texas — The last two seasons, Refugio’s last game came at the hands of Shiner.
This year, the Bobcats and Comanches will be in the same district. Refugio head coach Jason Herring looks forward to having a regular season game against the Comanches.
“I’m kind of excited to have them twice. That game has kind of blown out of proportion, it’s all or nothing; it’s four rounds deep. I kind of like the idea that we’re going to play them and win or lose, you’re still alive, and you’ve probably got a good shot of meeting them again in four or five weeks,” Herring said. “I think a good district just gets us seasoned and gets us ready.”
The Bobcats will have a challenge this year in their pursuit to return to the State Championship for the first time since 2019: more than half their roster from last year graduated.
“We’re young, we’ve got to break in some new folks right now, start a couple of freshmen and four or five sophomores,” Herring said. “Even the juniors, a lot of them, this is the first year for them to be ‘the man,’ they were behind some seniors last year.”
One of the juniors who will play a bigger role this year is running back, and lineman is Troy Haug. Haug does not have a lot of varsity experience.
“Whenever I get in, I always do my best and give it everything I’ve got,” he said.
“It’s just awesome playing for the Refugio Bobcats, I grew up watching the Bobcats play football, and it’s always been a dream of mine. So, just go out there and have fun, live in the moment," he said.
Herring expects the seniors on the team to step up and lead the inexperienced group of players.
“We don’t have a lot of seniors, but they’re very good leaders. So, they’ve kind of taken over the team, and they’re bringing the younglings along,” he said.
Quarterback Caleb Hesseltine knows that expectation and welcomes it.
“I feel like I’ve just got to step up; I’ve got to be the leader,” he said. “I feel good, we had a great off-season.”
Senior receiver and safety Branson Boxell missed last year to an injury but is ready to use what he learned from last year’s seniors to lead this year.
“We’ve got to step up as seniors and try to do what they did,” he said.
Boxell is optimistic about what he’s seen from the younger guys on the team.
“They’ve definitely showed a lot, they’re really good, they just need to be a lot more physical, and they’re just trying to get their feet wet on varsity,” he said.
Hesseltine expects the younger players to step up for the Bobcats this year.
“It’s a big deal for them. They’ve got a big role, they have big shoes to fill, but I think we’ll be good,” he said.
Coach Herring expects his team to get better as the season continues and knows the inexperienced players will be ready when they’re needed.
“I like where we’re at, mentally and physically, right now,” he said. “By the time we need them ready, they’ll be ready.”

Houndhound, Coach George Harris sent me 2 GP ball caps at separate times to make peace and I can’t be bought. John Ahlers went before the GP school board to protest the direction of GP athletics. He got barbecued by coaches wives and a coaches mother. I was disturbed over the direction of GP athletics. I tried a different approach.I researched what top coached recommended books to help coaches improve their coaches. I think only one Coach was helped. He is still coaching. I learned that it is a waste to try to help a coach that is not interested in being a better coach. It is hard to help a coach who is in their comfort zone. Sure a lot of players loved Coach Harris soft program. They had so many players out for football, they had a separate Sophomore team. They had 2 Freshman teams and over 300 players overall. Coaches were in their Comfort zone under Suptd.Dr. Paul Clore. Coach Harris even contacted my son who was a coach at Post that I inherited by marriage. He accused me of threatening his coaches. Coach Harris’s suggested Said he did not have room for the books I sent him. He suggested I donate money to the booster club instead. He wanted a blank check. He had lots of support from parents who had sons in his soft program and they got to send pictures to grand parents. GP had more talented players back then and did not beat a good ball team. I posted all the games at one time and challenge anyone to picks good team GP beat. A Tivey poster chimed in he thought Tivey had a good team that GP had beat. It was painful to watch a GP team lose 2 years in a row to a Killeen team tin the playoffs that was 4th in their district. Yes Coach Harris was well respected in his district. They loved playing against a soft program. Scott Powers was a Administrator at CCISD. Coach Harris’s hired his son Coach Kyle Powers . Google Coach Kyle Powers.
More beating on a dead dog.

Pico, pay attention. I have the AD/HC listed on the Llano thread. Coach Matt Green is a former QB at Brownwood . Coach Anastacio jumped out of the frying pan into the fire and took a job at Odessa Bronchos. He stated he would not take another AD/HC job again.

I think I remember it involved a certain running back. I watched him run the score up in a 4th round playoff game. I was in the stands and listened to the fans that game literally say, 'now it is time to run it up on them'. That is NOT GETTING your team in shape and ready for the playoffs, it is just piss poor sportsmanship! They were up by nearly 4 TDs late in the 4th, had all starters in the game, and called 2 timeouts, ran a reverse and threw deep balls in the last few minutes of the game. I was there and watched it with my own eyes and listened to multiple fans in teh stand say the same kind of BS. Sorry, but when you do stuff like that I'm not going to support it in any way whatsoever. There was absolutely no reason to have any starters in the game at that point because if they aren't in game shape in game #14 of the season there is something wrong. NUFF SAID!EDIT: I was very, very happy to see East Bernard kick the livin' crap out of them a couple years later and that coach showed class and had his starters pulled in the 4th when he could have absolutely tacked on 2 or 3 more on top of the 54-23 beatdown they gave Refugio. Just as happy last year to see Shiner kick their azz too 55-14 and that game could have been worse as well but Shiner subbed their players to in the 4th!
