I was having a random zone out during a pointless meeting and was wondering Is the Corpus Grayhoud track still open? I never went probably cause I was too young or broke when I was of age, but I remember the radio commercials making it sound like an amazing place. I went to the Retama horse track in Selma a few times on $1 beer night. I placed some bets but never made it big, just had a bad hangover the next day. They really sold that place as if it was going to be the next Kentucky derby for South Texas. No the greyhound track is gone. It was pretty fun.

I think all the Dog Tracks in Texas pretty much bit the dust a few years back when the animal rights activists started hammering breeder and trainers for their handling of the dogs and their post racing days. This put a nail in their coffins because state lottery also took revenue away from them. I think the Corpus Track was bought by the owners of L&F Distributors which is one of the large Beer distributors in the state in hopes that Texas opens up to more forms of gambling.

Never gambled more than about $20-$25 a race and one night walked out with almost $1k of their cash.

Oh yeah man Texas is scooping up the Billions with the Texas Lottery and that is ok to do but hell no to privately owned casinos. Just let all the Texans cross over to Windstar or go to LA or Vegas and let them soak up the TX cash! Typical state government BS if you ask me

I never really understood the betting process, just picked a horse with a fast name and who dropped a load before the race.

Lotto is fine but no for private casinos or mobile online betting. NC did let the Catawba Indians open a casino last year near Charlotte, but is under a lot of scrutiny for backroom deals. Also, it basically looks like a connection of shipping containers at the moment.

I'd watch the horses coming out onto the track. Then I'd box them and pick 2 of the more favored horses along with one that was a long shot that looked like he was full of piss and vinegar and throw him in the box with the two others.

That's changed now as some of those high rollers in Vegas want to get in on the Texas economic boom. Those casinos across the state lines in that wasteland known as Oklahoma are probably screaming the loudest being the closet to the a huge population center in the DFW area followed by those in Lake Charles.

I remember people chomping at the bit to take an 8 hour overnight bus ride to the Coushatta casino.
No thanks back then and no thanks today. I've done a couple grayhound trips to know a bus trip is a last resort.

In early 80s late 70s. Vegas had class. You couldn’t walk the floor in shorts. All shows you had to have a jacket and tie. Buffets were reasonable. Just classy. I went about 6 years ago it’s very sad

Last one I was on was 2011 when my cousin's boy was a star LBr on the team and we went to Jerry's World. He rented it and we just all pitched in $15 or $20 a head. It was fun on the way there but on the way home all went to sleep after a couple adult beverages and it seemed I was the only one awake all the way home which took 6 hours or more due to a RR stop halfway home that seemed to take forever and all the road construction then. lmao

Good times Remember that game in Houston against Kilgore? On the way back there was a fresh run over skunk at least every mile. One time at the Alamodome We went early and ate at Ruth's Chris down the street. J.D. and crew roll in in a limo and decide to come in for one more. So they're standing around the table and the waiter guy comes over and asks me are these people bothering you? No man these are my people.
