I take time to understand the Coach. I no longer work with a Refugio fan and Tasty Taco closed and the owner is no longer there on Sunday to keep me informed on Refugio. He gets his info from Coach Eddie Hesseltine.
My take. If you are the opposing coach to Refugio, you have a meeting with all your coaches at end of season and the subject is “Why did we lose a game? These other schools have the same kids that Refugio has. A light should go on. They might need to work harder in the weight room. They might need to work harder in off season training. The coaches might try going over to a local college at Kingsville and watch what they do at practice. They want be getting books from GP37 because he learned that a coach that has no desire to become a better coach is not going to appreciate the books. I saw a bunch of skinny kids from Refugio giving their best to win. I think it is called attitude.
The article above should enlighten most people but the rabble rousers on this blog are never satisfied until the other team they play is easy to beat such as other teams losing program. Coach Matt Anastacio went to Llano and helped revive that team and they were 13-1 for the first time in school history and now back to back district champs. The bottom line is “Hard Work pays”. Something lost on this present generation.

What has Anastacio done as A HC since leaving GP. You talk about having no tolerance for bad coaches like Harris and Rhoades. But your boy is nothing more than a assistant with a very average record as a HC.

As a FB HC you are a leader of young men. You want them the kids to be successful in life. There way to much to write on this subject. So back to I have witness over the years.
I have witness Refugio kids talk lots of smack on the field when they up on the score. Sometimes rubbing in the face of a team getting beaten down 40 to nothing. Got it. Fine. Noted.
Then when Refugio is getting pushed around they don’t like it when the other team is talking smack to them. Even the coach starts walking like his pants are on fire!
If you dish it out. Be ready to take it when it comes back to you - like hot pancakes with melting butter. Eat it baby.
Bottom line - you teach men to win with class.
Review the first few minutes of the Shiner vs Refugio game. You will notice the body language of both teams.

Don’t confuse swagger with arrogance. Swagger comes from self confidence. GPfans have not seen swagger in so long a time, they don’t know what it is. The other day when Refugio lost a Refugio player was sitting on the ground in tears. 2 or 3 Shiner players came over and helped him up and put their arms around him and consoled him.
Losing a game that a team could have won is hard to handle. GP vs FB and Rouse vs Liberty Hill two years in a Row. Yesterday I watched Baylor try to lose their game but OKState wanted to lose it worse.
Coach Tom Landry put a lot of importance on Players character. Coach Randy Allen of Highland Park has been successful doing that for years.
Coach Randy Allen was born in 1950 and he tried to retire and HP would not let him.
