Finding a trend in reporte recruiting from different articles and sources on the internet. It seems some colleges are cutting the number of scholarships they are going to offer hs kids and using them for players found in the portal.
This concerns me when deserving HS Athletes won't get an opportunity because of programs not offering them the scholarships.
It's a bad sign for HS kids that may depend on earning a scholarship to enable them to get a degree.

The NCAA granted all athletes a fifth year of eligibility last year which if someone red shirted , that gives them six years. A student can do four years at one school and then go to another for two if they have both years and get his/her masters. So it’s very inticinf for coaches to fill out their rosters with experience, especially if your team needs depth quickly.

This year will hopefully be the end of the cycle as far as the extra year thing being a factor . And some of the chatter I’ve read is the transfer portal might be up for some revisions too.

Not that it would hurt them any but College programs that take more transfers than HS kids will have a lesser chance of me wanting them to win games. I'm against giving second and third chances to some at the expense of no chance for others.

Some just want to play especially if they are second or third string. Other might want the move up to a harder division.

The drop to smaller schools and that takes spots from HS players that won't get an opportunity because of it.

Bottom line is anything that takes away from the HS kids getting a fair opportunity I don't like. If a college program needs 15 scholarships for portal transfers that need to do a better job recruiting to start with.

I didn’t have a problem with the additional year, but there’s absolutely no reason for the NCAA not to up the amount of scholarships allowed. They should have gone from 85 to 105 and then phased that out over a two year period. You don’t always have to screw someone over.
