This feels like a lateral move for UTSA, the only difference between CUSA and the American is that the American has a slightly better reputation. But the AAC just lost its best teams to the Big 12 (Cincinnati, Houston, UCF)

It allows them to be the next conference in line to the current Power 5 if they decide to expand the brackets. The school I'm surprised that hasn't been picked up is Boise State.

It looks like the AAC TV deal is a lot better than the CUSA contract, so that makes more sense for UTSA to change conferences. UTSA was getting around $500k a year in CUSA and the AAC deal signed in 2019 looks to be around $6 million per team but will likey be adjusted with the additional teams coming in.
What hurts Bosie St is its location, lack of quality athletic facilities, and academic standards. Unforently I think their ship has sailed in joining a major conference. There too far west for the AAC or ACC and they don't meet the PAC academic standards. The Big 12 just took BYU over them and the Big 10 is not looking for small market teams in the west. It's disappointing they won't get a shot to prove themselves against major completion.
Bosie St should try and talk North Dakota State into moving up to the FBS level and joining the Mountain West to have a quality program to compete with.

NDSU don't want to leave where they are competing for National Championships every year.

They are treated like the Flagship school in Idaho over the University of Idaho and Idaho St. And their facilities are not that bad and probably comparable to several schools in the new AAC. I mean the Convocation Center at UTSA is way overdue for a replacement and their current baseball setup is comparable to some of the better high school baseball stadiums in the SA area. When the Big 12 brought West Virginia, location being away from the bulk of the conference was a concern. But it worked out fine.

UTSA extends Coach Traylor contract Through 2031. 10 years $28 Million. That's a major commitment from UTSA to show its planning to be a major play in college football. Hopefully, it is enough to keep Texas Tech and TCU away from poaching their program.
