A couple of the kids from that class have either transferred or opted to play baseball only. But the class under them was also very talented. Alice will be in every game whether that's going 10-0 or 6-4 remains to be seen but they won't get blown out this year like the couple of games they did in 2020. Now this is exactly what it takes. A good group of Jrs to fill in holes and help out! Too bad a couple of the studs opted for baseball only. I have no doubt they have the potential this year to do some damage. Sure hope it happens. Looks like Alice will be starting a sophomore at quarterback. From what I've seen, he is pretty good and its not like they are void at that position with the Jr and Sr class.

Damn wait, as I type this my buddy just told me 2 of the WRs are not gonna play football this season either. Molina (2nd best WR) and Alejandro Vasquez. Molina is really talented at WR and doubled in the secondary. Big hit. He was still playing 7 on 7 from what I remember. I knew some opted baseball only but I didn't realize he now also decided on it. It's just different with this generation of kids opting not to play football if they're also good at another sport. Oh well.

Oh well. Don’t back down Chino, next man up! Molina was almost as good as the Salas kid that I have on Adkism's level. And he started on both sides of the ball. It's a big loss. He's not the only one. Alice will still be good but that's a big loss especially for a team that barely had 40 kids on varsity last year.

I just can’t see Matt not playing football. This has to be wrong.

Don’t back down Chino, next man up! Already making excuses. The program should be next man up with same training and passion. No excusses. Not making excuses. Reporting on kids that are deciding to opt baseball only is a fact not an excuse. Alice will still be in the playoffs but not fighting for 1st with those losses and G-P will be working on year 6 of no playoffs and won't be able to complain about it since your kids are working hard for the first time in 25 years with this coach lol.

Alice like most schools in the Coastal Bend aren't blessed with depth. Losing a player like Molina will hurt. He goes both ways.

I really don't like this trend of today's youth doing this when they are also good at baseball. 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 % of them are not gonna end up in the MLB anyway and so you sacrifice all these great high school football memories, that you've been working for your entire youth, for nothing.

Yep. They’re young. They just don’t know it’s over before you know it. I know a kid that had the talent to play at the next level but had his plan for school all set and never looked back. They’ve got to love it

And large majority of them will never play college ball either. And if they do, make a short career of it and end up finishing college without playing a full four years I’ll say it again. The way the current structure with youth baseball is set up right now in this country is screwed up. I’d use the F-word, but this site is Rated PG…. The select leagues are ruining kids physically as one just needs to look up the Tommy John stats and how surgeries have sky rocketed in teens and for pre teens in the last decade. Likewise they are excluding kids who might be good players from playing later as they grow because they don’t have the cash to pay to play. And as someone who has watched a football program end up losing kids who are about to be Junior or Seniors to go “baseball only” it’s a slap at the coaches and his fellow teammates who vested time and sweat to form a team unit over the years to try to win games in it really counts on the football field their last two years of their competitive football years. Especially if they are slated to be on the two deep going into their Junior years. It’s all about the fricken money and how some of these select coaches dangle carrots in front of parents suggesting if they play for him and go play in tourneys around the nation, college and MLB scouts will be pounding the doors wanting to make offers to you. What’s more disturbing is you have more college and MLB coaches and former players are speaking out and saying stop that insanity and allow your kid to multi sport if they choose. And yes you bet your bottom dollar there are a good number of parents making the call for their kid to go baseball only. I might get some incoming, but that’s fine for this. At the end of day, the push to make kids choose baseball over football or any other sport for that matter has resulted in ZERO state tourney appearances since this became a big thing ten or so years ago. In fact if anything it’s probably resulted in some teams lacking cohesion because the kids during a time when they could play summer ball together all went to separate parts of the state and come back focusing on what “they” need to do instead or what “we” need to do. I hate saying this because I love baseball, but damn how I’ve seen things go down over the last decade or so in part thanks to how the dynamic is so dependent on selects and if you are going to be loyal to the program by giving everything up in other sports really soured me with baseball. The ironic thing is some of our best baseball players over the years were multi sport athletes and not only played two, but three and maybe more sports and still did well on the diamond. Why the detour and now with evidence suggesting year around baseball is harmful especially with Pitchers seems like the definition of insanity is at play.
