GP has its 1st game on Wed night at Cabaniss @ 7pm. The forecast calls for rain. I haven’t been to Cabaniss in a long time, is it grass or turf? I’m being told that when GP moves it’s new baseball and softball fields back to the campus they will be turf. It’s going to be hard enough to get in a game much less 3 if needed. Friday night is off limits due to GP graduation that night.

Well... All of these turf fields in places like Jourdanton, Freer, Kennedy, etc. are realizing their purpose this time of year. I'm old school and prefer dirt and grass for baseball and softball, but for the kids sake I'm glad these places are available. At least the Frio, Medina, Guadalupe, etc will getting some prime water just in time for the summer! Can't wait for my trips up there in June and July! Absolutely right about the rain. Let it come. First time in several years stock tanks here are actually full to the spillways and we have some good bottom moisture heading into the first part of summer. I was on the brink of selling about 10-12 calves way too soon 3 weeks ago because of lack of grass and now can let them go another month or a little more and get them to about 500 lb average. I tell anybody that wishes the rain would stop to go buy a good pair of rubber boots because I'd rather feed and check cows in the mud and have grass to cut and bale than not have any at all. I don't mind the rain we get the next few days into the end of the month.... Bring it on! This has been a million dollar rain for the Farmers/Ranchers where just a month ago it look like a long term drought. But once we start getting a bunch of it June into the August time frame, it means it's coming from the Gulf and that spells trouble for an active tropical season. I just assume we go dry until the end of September because that will pretty much mean a quiet tropical system. The last thing we need anywhere on our coastline is a major storm or two. Price of lumber today will look cheap if one of our major Metro areas from the Carolinas to Brownsville gets struck by a Cat 3 or higher. And our insurance rates are going to take a hit soon thanks to last tropical season, the winter storm and the repeated episodes of severe hailstorms this spring. I just hope all the teams can get their games in this week. Nothing SUCKS more than deciding the fate of the season on a fricken coin flip.

What I don't understand is back in the 70s and 80s we would always get small tripical storms and depressions that would roll into the CB and then stream big rains all the way up into the hill country. That rarely if every happens any more. Back then we could count on at least one of two of these systems with big rain makers in July, August, or September when we are just burning up.

I recall going up to the Frio a few times back then in July and it was flowing pretty good because of such events. The normal five hour float took an hour or so.... LMAO was I stupid or what as a teen! So far today since 5 AM. Six inches of rain with some areas already over a foot....
