Don't be surprised if Davis gets a similar set up at G-P where his OC and DC dont teach classes This is just crazy at the HS level. So basically you are paying 3 salaries for coaching and nothing else. Maybe I'm old school but I think this is going overboard and a big time waste of tax payer dollars.

Defense wins championships, admit it! Coaches are loving it and saying this is how GP football used to be. Kids are sore and going to bed early. No more of this staying up late from what I hear. The previous program gave attendance and kids joked around and played grab ass. Not so much now! lol. Things have changed and your gunna work and contribute or be weeded out. Damn! Rhoades must have won all those games back at New Braunfels and Yoe because he was just loaded with FBS talent...………….and just a luck, lucky man.

GP needed a coach to coach and not a baby sitter.

All three will still be coaching but they will be free to coach at every level in the program from Jr high up to varsity. Plus they will be free for other duties at the GP ISD.

I put more importance on effort than I do size..I don’t care how big you are and how fast you are when a 155 pounder pins your legs together below the knees, your going down. This grabbing around the shoulders by 4 players to corral tackle does not win ball games. That attitude is why only a few teams from this area can compete with the rest of the state. Speed, size and strength matter. Kids with size and speed ALSO give effort it isn't just the little guys lol.

I think it's the deal he got when he went to Alice also. His OC and DC didn't teach from what I heard. Maybe I'm wrong and thinking of one of his other programs but I think that's the deal he had in Alice.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that was the deal he made with Herrera. It allowed him and his assistants to work more with the Jr high kids. Its brilliant imo. A lot of kids down here don't have the money to go to camps. Now I'm not equating the two, but it does do a lot of good for the kids.

Just allows those guys to focus on athletics....could even allow starting a "pre-athletics" for 6th grade which is getting popular now....if you look at it like that in a normal eight period day if you schedule it right
Varsity Athletics Freshman Atheltics 8th grade athletics 7th grade athletics Pre-Athletics
That's five periods right there....add in lunch duty and a conference period and its a full day

My wife is in her 29th year as a classroom teacher at the elementary level and I know what a full day is at school. It is 6:45am until 5:00pm or later every day with a 25 minute lunch! Comparing your full day above to what classroom teachers do (the good ones) is pretty much a slap in the face. If the HC is making 6 figures which I'm relatively sure he is and these other 2 are making $65k that is nearly a 1/4 million a year for football coaching ONLY at this district and not a single classroom subject being taught. I'd have a real problem if my tax dollars were being spent like that.

The Rhoades started pre athletics at the intermediate several years ago.
It would also be incredibly difficult to have all of those classes at different times of the day. Would make it very difficult for one of those groups to practice efficiently. Not saying it can’t be done... would just take a lot of juggling.

Totally within your right to have a problem with it...sounds like the taxpayers at G-P (and several other ISDs) do not (or are not educated enough)....at my local ISD where I pay taxes our OC doesnt teach classes but he has the Asst AD title so there are admin duties...the DC teaches 2 PE classes but is also at the junior high for athletics has varsity and freshman athletic periods..I personally dont have an issue with that setup.... Of note, I'd also be shocked if the G-P coordinators are making 65k...my guess is closer to 85k....

I dont think that schedule can be done daily during football season with after school practice....but I know in the ISD where they do it...the HS coaches who dont teach are at the JH and intermediate school almost daily for off-season....now that town has advantages because the HS and JH are basically on the same block and the intermediate school is a 5 min car ride...HS starts school at 745 and JH starts 845....I believe at the HS freshman athletics is 1st period and at the JH boys athletics is 1st period (they dont do 7th/8th they do boys 1st period, girls 8th period)...6th grade pre-athletics is late morning then they come back to the HS for lunch duty....they stay for varsity athletics last period then go back to the JH to help with girls off-season last period the JH day
