Welcome Coach Davis to Gregory Portland. It’s certain that the GP that he remembered from the past is a much different program today. In the past GP under Akins was a solid run based offense that Akins ran to perfection. Now Rhoades like others tried to run the wide open spread offense that just never clicked at GP. Davis did open up a bit when asked what offense he wanted at GP? His answer spoke volumes, he said we will run the offense that fits the players at GP. It’s no secret that GP hasn’t had a good passing QB in years but they still tried to run the spread, that was a mistake. When GP finally had a decent passing GB he transferred out to Refugio. Basically the QB that Jack Rhoades spent two years coaching up his skills just bailed out and leaving GP scrambling. Gp needs to run what fits win more games and get back in the playoffs. That will help stop the transfers and keep the new move ins to GP.

GP will probably be 6a really soon with the houses being built! GP is really growing fast and available land has already bought by developers and new home starts are taking off. Estimates are that GP should have a population north of 50,000 in 15 years. That’s crazy but it is amazing to see so many new homes already built in the last few years.I don’t know the GP ISD”s plan for the future but yes eventually GP will continue to grow. Is a second HS in the future plan? I do like the different approach the administration has taken when hiring Davis. He can bring in up to 6 coaches, the OC and DC do not teach which will help getting his program started and he has full control over every aspect in athletics at GP. And the most important change the HC and the Supt will actively work together to solve problems in the athletics program. That is a big change from the past and it will make a huge difference.

Double Hunger Buster full of Drama Queens? I’ll be up watching the Blanco Panthers or Canyon Lake Hawks by then. I hope.

The Drama over at the A&H auction was great. It was scaled down because of the China Virus and no venders, They did take in about $683,000 dollars. I think Allen Samuel's had everybody beat. Exxon Gulf Ventures was high bidder on a steer and the new Steel Dynamics company spent a bunch. The Suggs kid that sold her Rabbit for $21,000 in previous auction after her dad died got about $7,000 more this year but the real Drama was this about 10 year old special needs kid who had his goat make auction. He got standing ovation after standing ovation and he went home with $49,000 for his goat plus gets to keep his goat,

Rebuilding the program is for the athletes not the parents or coaches. I’ve already gotten calls and texts from panicked coaches scared they might lose their jobs. Why? If your a coach you have a job just like everyone else. The difference is how well you did your job. If you did well you have nothing to fear, but if you have multiple losing seasons you have a problem. Davis will raise the bar at GP and low performing coaches will be gone. You can’t improve if you continue to make the mistakes of the past.
