Flour Bluff won their first ever playoff game in 2000. Compare their overall records after 2004. GP was the big dog on the block during the Akins years and neither FB or Calallen beat one of his teams. It took a long time for FB to learn to win. GP can start again but it won’t happen overnight

I keep hearing and seeing stats on this coach or that coach and their level of success or not, none of that means nothing now. Those are programs that are far gone. What are the time proven traits that bred success at other programs. Hire a good experienced coach that has a game plan and enthusiasm to get his athletes to get in the weight room and start building on enthusiasm to get better every way. The booster club must be on board with that coach and his program and actively get the fan base to support the program. The HC/AD and Supt must have the same vision on where the program needs to go and how to get there. The parents and football fans need to come together and let the administration know we expect them to do what’s right for every athlete boys or girls at GP. GP is investing a ton of money on new schools and athletic facilities even building a new turf football field just for the Jr high. Now is the time to get a individual with the experience and the ability to build a solid program. No barriers or false promises should happen because our athletes deserve the best that we can provide for them. As the taxpayers in GP it’s our job to make sure this happens.

GP kept claiming to be the big dog when they were no longer the big dog. They printed up Tee shirts for the booster club to sell that said Fear This and nobody feared GP anymore and they tried to schedule GP for home coming. GP would lose the game and run over as a group and shake their helmets in the air and student section would cheer. Losing did not mean anything. The other teams liked paying GP back for beating up on them during the Akins era. “Everybody gets a trophy culture has taken over at GP. I see it as a hopeless situation and give Coach Richard Ouelette the keys to the stadium and let every boy in the school hang out at practice and get a letter jacket.

I went over to the new stadium in Taft to watch my great grand daughter play flag football and saw the new stadium for the first time. It is nice. They did a good job. She loves flag football and thinks she is Drew Brees. She played flag football last year at GP and their season ended and she joined Taft Flag football. She play 3 sports and she is a tall as the coach. She starts middle school next year. The old Taft stadium was terrible.

GP needs Coach Darren Allman but he is busy at Nacogdoches right now over hauling their program. He put Coach Dodge junior in charge at Southlake Carroll a Retead who was hired because he can Coach and not because he is a retread. Ironic that Coach Dodge Senior took over at Austin Westlake when Coach Allman left there. When Coach Allman takes over as AD, no coaches job is secure. Nacogdoches

Ironic that Coach Dodge Senior took over at Austin Westlake when Coach Allman left there. When Coach Allman takes over as AD, no coaches job is secure. Nacogdoches That is why during the past administration you would never see Allman at GP. Now there is a new Supt and I know very little about her other is is a big promoter of high expectations in the classrooms and to promote the GP education system as a premier system. That is good to see and she’s a big user of social media, especially GPTV. Personally I would love to see a coach of Darren Allman or a Surratt at GP but that’s exactly what Dr Clore thought would fix all his athletic problems at GP. Hire a championship caliber coach and bring in a couple assts and presto all problems would go away. Well the exact opposite occurred, that high caliber coach came in and after a year both assts bailed out and then his son left because the old guard at GP put up barriers to his areas of responsibility and renigned on promises that were made when he was hired. Rhoades knew two years ago the system at GP would never produce success but he had to have the required years of service to retire or resign at that pay level during his retirement. That’s just smart business for him but not good for our athletes. After a decade of coaching homerism especially the jr high level, many good young athletes left GP to get better coaching at other schools. Many went into the strong soccer program and quit football. Many things have happened to destroy GP football and no man will turn it around in one season. But the right man with the right assts can start to rebuild the program. The only question is will the administration give him the tools to do the job?

My son who played for both Anastacio and Rhoades told me dad if the Karen's would just leave them alone. His exact words were "its not the coach Karen your kid sucks." Leave them alone let them build their program with their guys.... If the new AD doesn't get that power it will be the same issue again. Harris brought in his people and so did Holt. Those guys had complete control of the program. There is plenty of enough talent in Portland to run a successful program.

I really don't want to fool with posters that go thru life trying to have trouble with other people in life but it is amazing the posters that are dissatisfied with the performance at GP and yet they brag on the retreads at GP that are coaching the players they are dissatisfied with. I love this statement "Those guys know what it was like when GP was winning, why discard them?". Winning against who? PLC and Calallen and Flour Bluff? More beating on a dead dog but I gathered up one time the complete stats on the 10 years of Coach George Harris and posted it and asked everyone to pick a good team GP beat in that 10 years. So much for Coach Jerry Long the OC. One poster from Tivey felt like they had a good team when they lost to GP. GP was ranked number one in the state when they lost to Pflugerville Connally. Connaly had about as many players that went to a junior college that GP had go D1. Rice an Missouri. GP got knocked out a couple of years by Killeen when Killeen was the low seed in their district. Coach Harris won 70% of his games. Coach Carlo Mircovich won 70% of his games and they fired him after one year. Coach Bruce Bush might have done better if he had played the whole team instead of running up stats for his son so he could get a scolly. Coach Bruce Bush got out coached by a guy name of Coach Bob Shelton. They named a stadium after him over at Buda Hays. When Travis Bush was injured catching a punt(dislocated elbow). what happened? They brought in a back up QB who had not played. Game over. Let me give you Chuck and Duck Coach Bob Loomis record. !995 (8-3) 1996 10-3) 1997 (7-3) and he beat Flour Bluff all three years and lost to Calallen all three years. Yes they know what it was like winning at GP. About 70% of the time against weak teams. So GP37, you're saying that the players who played on the winning teams back then aren't any good? The kids can't decide whos in their district. Look at Refugio, are they bad? They play in a terribly weak district, yet then are always in the playoffs... I can't figure you out GP37, are you for or against us? I was at GP when we were playing in the Astrodome (TWICE) and going at least 2 or 3 rounds deep in the playoffs. When Calallen had the Danaher boys, and yes; when Hays beat us in the playoffs. People forget that the boys almost came from behind in that Hays game in 94, even with a backup QB. People also forget that Travis had 3 punt returns for TD's that season, and the wall was setup for a great return on the punt that he was injured on. Have you ever coached anything other than flag football? You seem to have all the answers...An assistant can only do so much. The HC sets the tone for the entire program. I'm sure the former players or retreads have been upset about the way the program has been run, but again...they are assistants and will not undermine the HC

Your negativity just hit an all time high (or low). The situation is hopeless? Then go away and offer your "wisdom" to some other program. You should still post your poison, just pick another team to "support". By the way, that's about the 200th time you posted a version of that particular "wisdom".

37 your satire isn’t going to get you many Xmas party invites. Yes there’s always been talent at GP, but GP has lost some of that talent to transfers. You cannot build a solid program if some of your best athletes transfer out. You have to ask why? It’s not the facilities, some of the best in district. The HC/AD? I don’t think so, what real player wouldn’t want to be coached by someone who has multiple championship rings. The boys are transferring out mostly because the program is poorly run. 5 straight years of not making playoffs, very few scholarship offers and no plan to improve the status quo. GP never had this problem when Coach Kline ran the program at GP jr high. I’m not saying that every jr high coach should be fired. GP jr high coaching has declined and it needs a heavy dose of hard nosed enthusiastic coaches a new 7th grade and 8th grade. You build good programs from the ground up and not top down. The talents there it’s just been poorly coached and that must stop.

Nacogdoches Why do you keep on name dropping coaches who won’t touch GP even with six figure salary price tag? Everyone on here who has followed the issues at GP, whether they have a dog in the fight or not knows the issues are not going to be resolved by one man. Not even Superman or Vito Coreleone could fix GP right now.

"Detour there is a muddy road ahead should have read that detour sign". You can see above why I was hesitant to join this conversation but having more fun than the law allows. There is a long time poster on here that I depend on to keep my facts straight and he has not popped up yet so guess I am doing pretty good so far. Senile ol guy has a hard time keeping dates and stuff together. My wife is editing my application for the GP job and no need to expect Coach Jay Seibert to apply because when he hears I applied, he knows he can't compete. They may consider me over qualified. If you look over all these past post for the Post Harris days, you will see 2 coaches that could not sell there program. Wing-T guys did not buy the 2 back offense of Coach Anastacio or the spread of Coach Rhoades. They had this ventriloquist in the west. That was someone who could throw his voice. He went around to all the areas talking to the people selling medicine. He came up to this Indian village. The Chief was standing by his Tepee. He walked up to the Chief and asked ,"Do you mind if I talk to your horse? Chief replied, animal no talk. The ventriloquist said, Oh yes he does. Let me ask him a question, He turned toward the horse and started talking. How does the Chief treat you? Doe he ride you all day? Does he feed you good? The horse moved his lips and sure enough the chief heard this reply. "Yes the Chief takes good care of me". An old dog was laying near the tepee. The Ventriloquist said chief do you mind if I talk with your dog. The Chief replied animal no talk. Again the ventriloquist said yes he does.Let me talk to the dog. Does the chief treat you good? Does he feed you? Does he pet you? Again the dog responded. "He treats me real good and he feeds me and he pets me".The Chief was shaking his head in amazement. The ventriloquist looked around and saw some sheep grazing over on the hillside. He looked over at the Chief and said do you mind if I talk to your Sheep. The Chief replied ,"SHEEP LIE". That is a good example of making someone believe in what you are doing in selling your program. You can bet the players were not only hearing it from their parents and their friends but fellow students. We need to be running the Wing-T. Coach Danaher is using 2 different formations and Coach Seibert has used 2 different formations and when Austen Ochoa went over to Refugio, Coach Herring had to adjust to a different formation. You have to adjust to your personnel and you have to convince them to buy in to succeed.
