The staff is still there to go along with Coach Richard Ouelette. Coach Fred Flores who is a GP retread and Coach under Coach Harris in the Wing-T and now golf coach. Coach Mike Garcia,Coach Chris Kasner, Coach Pablo Garza,Coach Ram Lopez a GP retread who played for Coach Harris and was asst. in the Wing-T,Coach Ruben Lopez a GP Grad 2002,Coach Kyle Powers Hired by Coach Harris ,Coach Baldemar Pena asst. under Coach Harris ,Tyler Vernon a GP retread Grad 2007,Coach Paul Bayne started at GP 1994. Coach Kyle Powers has a father high up in CCISD and started coaching in Corpus. Why ruin another coaches career by hiring him at GP. Several of these coaches have over 30 years of experience and have been friends of Coach Harris for years. They are experts in the Wing-T.

NAW, let's just run the spread and miss the playoffs for 5 more years. We can throw it even more if we get ourselves a couple of 5'10" wide receivers and a 5'9" QB. LMAO!!! My point was that we need a coach and staff that can adapt to the talent/size that we have. AMEN. I've said that for years.

They should have let the Biggest and strongest suit out this year. GP played Calallen this year and nothing went good and it was a bad game. Coach Rick Rhoades was supposed to do a live TV show after the game and he and his wife flew in a helicopter furnished by the TV people to the interview. They played terrible and the game was on local TV. Coach Rhoades said to his wife, this can't be as bad as it seems. He said I am going to throw a $20 dollar bill out the window of the helicopter. His wife said why do you want to do that. Coach Rhoades said it would make someone happy. His wife said why don't you throw 2 $10 dollar bills out the window and make 2 people happy. The Helicopter pilot having overheard the conversation who was from Portland said Coach Rhoades why don't you jump out of the helicopter and make all the GP Alumni happy. It is a true story, would I lie. GP fans do not like a losing football program.

Offensive system doesn't really matter. You need a program builder. The coach needs his guys. We will continue to have issues if we don't. This Wing T stuff is stupid. It's not the answer to fixing the program. Its just the style a bunch of old guys want to see. Hire someone who wants to build a program and is hungry. Doesn't matter his offensive style. Let a man bring in his vision and every one support it. We were doomed with Anastacio and Rhoades because half the community wanted Jay both times. I love Jay have a lot of respect foe him and wish he had the job myself however everyone needs to move on, and support whomever the new coach is. The new AD needs to get this right.

I respect every word you wrote but it has to be a solid relationship with the new coach and the administration to fix what has gone wrong at GP. When mediocre coaches run the program you get poor results. The next coach has to set the goals at every level and those who fail to meet those goals must be replaced by coaches that can meet or excede those goals.

I agree with everything you say except Mike Garcia, not even calling him a Coach. He is not a football coach and could care less if he wins or loses. When me son was in 8th grade they had 3 games that they had a chance to win that he just let the clock run out. He had 3 timeouts in one game and 2 in one. All three time we had the ball. I saw him do this a number of times years after as well. Kyle Powers is an awesome Coach and kids will play for him. He is the one that convinced Blaine to play in high school. He wasn’t going to play. After his experience in Jr. High.

For the Wing-T you need a ball handler at QB that can also throw the ball. You really need 6 RB to swap out. A tackle that can block down field and pulling guard. I have not seen that type of personal at GP for years. Eric White might have been pretty good because he could run the ball but he had small hands to pass with. Anyway my Wing-T is going to be a one back Wing-T and my Wing back will be on the right side of the TE and my tailback is going to be in the slot just outside the Tackle with a Split End. I will have Wing-T,Slot-T and pro style and triple option together. My QB will be under center and I can sweep from either side or FB belly play and you load up 7 in the box to stop my Belly play, I have 3 wide receivers SE,slot Back and Wing back. There is all kinds of misdirection with a fake to the FB on the Belly play and QB roll out pass or run it or use the wing back for a pitch man in the triple option. I can go to split ends on both sides and have the spread. One Back Wing-T, now when was the last time you saw a QB at GP that completed more than 30% of his passes or more than 2 running backs that could carry the ball. A left tackle that had enough speed to block down field. A right pulling guard to take out a LB. If QB faked a sweep to the wing back to the left and followed and had your split end and slot back and Wing back blocking down field like the Calallen blockers a few years ago, it would be awesome. Coach Anastacio and Coach Rhoades just did not have the people and players coming up from lower grades were not well coached.

I'm not necessarily against the Slot-T. It's a proven system than can work, look at GP in the 90s and Liberty Hill winning state running that offense. My point is that whoever the new coach is, he needs to be able to adapt. Coach Rhoades wasn't able to do that. I don't need to hear what the Slot-T needs (especially from the wannabe coach), I need to hear how the new coach is going to rebuild GP football. How is offseason and conditioning program are, and how he and his staff are going to get the kids motivated. If GP37 has it all figured out, why shouldn't we just hire him?!?!? And to answer your question, GP37 the last time we saw that, as far as I can remember was from 1989-1994 seasons. Brian Romero, Brett Mitchell and Travis Bush were the QB,s during that time. There's too many RB to name all of them, but one of them was Coach Ramiro Lopez. As far as the current coaching staff goes, why are we calling them retreads? Coach Vernon and the Lopez brothers went to GP, played at GP...so why are we knocking them for coaching at GP? Those guys know what it was like when GP was winning, why discard them? I don't know alot about the rest of the staff...but the new coach needs to be able to bring in whoever he sees fit, at all levels in the entire athletic department (boys and girls sports).

Rhoades won numerous championship with the offense he brought to GP and he was convince the offense would work at GP. Whoever is the next HC, he must rebuild the jr high program by either hiring new Jr high HC”s or moving some coaches to head up those teams. GP has to stop the talent drain and stop talented players from transferring out. I’ve never believed that ex GP players couldn’t coach at a high level. There’s too many ex players who coach at other schools and have done very well. But at the same time there are ex players coaching at GP that are not doing a good job. I do believe this has occurred by the HC/AD basically because he has little to no control in the jr high programs. I know many good HC”s that have good solid programs and they all have total control of every aspect of the programs from 7th grade to Varsity. On another note, while listening to the halftime speaker during the Vets game they had a Bud of mine who’s coaching the swim team at Vets, Sam Uptergrove. Good guy

Anybody that used to be at GP as a player or coach is a retread and has no ability to coach . AT LEAST ACCORDING TO 37/WFC. I think having ex players that know GP and it's tradition can be an asset.

I really don't want to fool with posters that go thru life trying to have trouble with other people in life but it is amazing the posters that are dissatisfied with the performance at GP and yet they brag on the retreads at GP that are coaching the players they are dissatisfied with. I love this statement "Those guys know what it was like when GP was winning, why discard them?". Winning against who? PLC and Calallen and Flour Bluff? More beating on a dead dog but I gathered up one time the complete stats on the 10 years of Coach George Harris and posted it and asked everyone to pick a good team GP beat in that 10 years. So much for Coach Jerry Long the OC. One poster from Tivey felt like they had a good team when they lost to GP. GP was ranked number one in the state when they lost to Pflugerville Connally. Connaly had about as many players that went to a junior college that GP had go D1. Rice an Missouri. GP got knocked out a couple of years by Killeen when Killeen was the low seed in their district. Coach Harris won 70% of his games. Coach Carlo Mircovich won 70% of his games and they fired him after one year. Coach Bruce Bush might have done better if he had played the whole team instead of running up stats for his son so he could get a scolly. Coach Bruce Bush got out coached by a guy name of Coach Bob Shelton. They named a stadium after him over at Buda Hays. When Travis Bush was injured catching a punt(dislocated elbow). what happened? They brought in a back up QB who had not played. Game over. Let me give you Chuck and Duck Coach Bob Loomis record. !995 (8-3) 1996 10-3) 1997 (7-3) and he beat Flour Bluff all three years and lost to Calallen all three years. Yes they know what it was like winning at GP. About 70% of the time against weak teams.
