I hate to say it but Calallen looked pretty good in that loss. You guys weren't playing Mercedes. That was a talented team. When the games don't mean anything I would rather look good in a loss then win ugly.I think this team has a chance to be very good. Agreed. I can think of several times going back 10 or so seasons where looked horrible in winning the first game against Mercedes or another valley school. The 2016 State Finals team barely escaped with a one TD win in the first game against Mercedes . But if memory serves Yall laid it on them in the playoffs that same year.

Cal looked good against SA Christian. I was really impressed by the SA quarterback. He was the most talented player on the field. Being a Razorback alumni, I hope we can keep this kid on his commitment to Arkansas. He has a really bright future. Cal will only get better from this tough loss.

That was probably their best team ever as the Tiger fan base put a lot of faith in them going back to their youth football days with the core of that team winning a youth state football title before they got into middle school. They also had good success at 7-7 and that summer they beat us in our own tourney to give them a ticket to the state match in Collie Station. So yea they were pumped and give them full credit, in that first game they put up a good fight. They were chomping at the bit for a second shot.

I think the Cornerstone QB is getting most of the credit and not enough credit for that big tackle on defense. I was less than impressed with #99 - big boy yes but really looked more fat. I dont recall seeing him much in the 4th quarter and was wondering if he was winded. The QB - legit - not the best passer I have seen but he can run. Assuming the NFL is still around in 4 years we might see him playing on Sundays.

I think the Cornerstone QB is getting most of the credit and not enough credit for that big tackle on defense. My friend from Cornerstone who’s daughter is a senior told me there were Scouts from Ohio State, Texas Tech, TAMU and several other schools there on their side last night. She said they openly admit they were kicked out of TAPPS for recruiting and that’s exactly how they want it. She said they were impressed with Calallen considering how loaded they are from top to bottom with talent. They should have been impressed with Calallen, they damn near were beaten by them and would have been if not for a couple of big time plays by their QB! As far as the scouts go, I don't doubt it at all. But, that can be seen any day of practice and even spring ball at a few schools around the SA area, especially the far NE side. Honestly, if they have that much money backing them and want to got that route then I say to all other coaches, DON'T schedule them. Let them travel every week and play other scholarship schools around the country.

The, he would likely be a very legit as it would likely help his foot speed which right now wasn't impressive. Takes up a lot of space though right now and creates problems up the middle because of it for opposing offenses. On the QB, no doubt a very talented kid with good speed and vision. Pretty good arm strength as well but not all that accurate at least in this game. 247 sports has him as the #31 best DT QB in the nation right now in this class.

What grade is the Calallen RB and #44 on defense? 44 has a nose for the football and will have a great season I think.
Also, I thought the Cats looked very good for the 1st game of the year. I have no doubt that defensively they are going to be salty, very salty. Offensively they have the players to an offense that 'beats you down'. Solid offensive line, good RBs, a QB that can tuck it an go. What I'd like to see is them develop the passing game a bit more and use it to 'loosen up' the box some. If they could work on that and just throw it 8-10 times a game completing 50% or better, it'll make that run game even that much better.
This district is going to be very, very tough indeed.

To be honest, for what they supposedly have for athletes, I wasn't impressed that much. We looked like our typical first game. Im sure cornerstone will get better as the year goes too. I will say that their speed was deceiving to me. They didnt look overly fast but they pulled away from our secondary a couple times and we have some quick guys back there

They didnt look overly fast but they pulled away from our secondary a couple times and we have some quick guys back there I completely agree with everything you said here. Are they good, yes. Are they great, especially for having the recruited talent they have.....far from it IMO. Cal could have just as easily won that game if not for an athletic QB taking advantage of his ability and a little bit of breakdown by the D-line in containment up front. Cal's D made the adjustments at halftime and took that away nicely I thought in the 2nd half. I thought their QB was very good but kept wondering why they decided to use Myzell Miller in the defensive backfield instead of at RB because he is easily their fastest player. I'm guessing it is probably because that is where he projects at the next level most likely. We did the same thing a few years ago with Jordan Sterns, the older brother of the Texas Safety. He was one hell of a RB already as a sophomore in a backup roll but then they rolled him over to Safety as a Jr & Sr and in the end it was a great decision by coach Jinks as he ended up being an all-conference safety at Ok St.
