Super Class 6A
Super Class 6A proposal will be discussed by UIL committee -- here are the schools that would qualify
A lot of things will be discussed during the UIL Legislative Council and committee meetings on Sunday and Monday in Round Rock. There is always a lot of discussion, but not necessarily a lot of policy changes.
I'll be writing on the legislative council later this week, but for now, here's another item of new business that's interesting. (Earlier, I wrote about a proposal that would allow home-schoolers to play for high school teams).
What do you think about a Super 6A?
That's the title used to describe a potential classification for schools with an enrollment of at least 3,500 students. The idea of a classification for the state's largest 40 or 50 schools has been a topic of conversation before, but it has never been seriously considered. The UIL prefers that each class (currently 1A through 6A) has about the same number of schools.
Another problem with the idea is that more travel would be required. With fewer schools, districts would be more spread out geographically.
Still, it will be discussed at the UIL meetings. And it's fun to take a look at that schools would be in a Super 6A if it were created with a cutoff of 3,500. Under the current UIL enrollments for each school, here are the teams that would be in the Super Class:
